Housing Support Worker

**Job Overview**
The Housing Support Worker provides on-site support, advocacy and stabilization services to tenants living in a 24/7 supportive housing environment. This role focuses on building trusting relationships, maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere, and assisting tenants in maintaining housing stability and over-all well being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trauma-informed, respectful and person-centered care and support to tenants with a history of homelessness, substance use disorders, and mental health challenges.
- Engage tenants in supportive conversations to continually build rapport and assess needs of the individual tenant.
- Support tenants in developing and maintaining life skills as needed (e.g.: cleaning and organizing, guest management, budgeting, etc.)
- De-escalation and crisis intervention; follow safety protocols and complete incident reports as needed.
- Monitor the safety and security of the building; walkthroughs/walkarounds and emergency response/support.
- Collaborate with case managers and the rest of the housing team, tenants’ other professional supports for care continuum.
- Maintain accurate and proper documentation as needed, as per agency guidelines. Housing On Call response (for all housing buildings), as needed.
Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma in Social Science or in Family or Human Services or combination of experience and training considered.
- Experience with and/or lived-experience with marginalized populations with the ability to empathize with a wide variety of challenging experiences in a caring, non-judgmental manner.
- Knowledgeable in motivational interviewing skills and trauma informed care models
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
- Naloxone, Basic CPR/First Aid/ ASIST are assets
This is a full-time position (minimum of 37.5 hours/week) and part time (minimum of 12 hours/week) weekends as required.
