**Job Description **Parks Maintenance Assistant

The Parks Maintenance Assistant is part of the team responsible for the maintenance of sports fields, irrigation systems, parks and trails, including operation of related equipment and assisting with special projects and events. This is a regular, full-time position.

The Parks Maintenance Assistant will perform field maintenance including fertilizing, liming, aerating, slicing and seeding as well as field layout for users. The position also performs general maintenance of parks and trails and assists with projects such as playground or sports field renovations and special events. This position will assist with the training and supervision of staff, prioritize and plan daily work schedules, and will respond to public requests and enquiries.

**Basic **Qualifications**:

- Grade 12 education plus a minimum of 2 - 3 years of related experience
- Knowledge of turf management and experience with maintenance of sports fields
- Equipment operation, ie. Boom truck, chainsaw, forklift and maintenance equipment such as zero turn ride-on lawn mowers
- Proficient operation of irrigation systems and experience doing start-up, programming and winterization procedures
- Ability to perform trail maintenance, water park operations and playground inspections
- Knowledge of safety regulations
- Supervisory experience
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's license
- Playground Inspector Certification
