**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager, Residence Life Services, the Residence Manager lives in the Residence and is responsible for a safe, healthy, and positive living environment for residence students that promotes student learning and personal success.

The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination, supervision and administration of residence life programs, activities, student accommodation and facility-related issues in an assigned residence area accommodating up to 950 students.

The incumbent is one of six full-time live-in staff who will work co-operatively and collaboratively with other staff of the Department and University to develop and maintain appropriate community living standards. The incumbent provides leadership in promoting an environment that supports academic achievement, student development and fosters responsible decision making.

**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

- Completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
- Completion of both Emergency First Aid and CPR Training.
- Must have a good understanding of the educational and student developmental functions of a college or University Residence system and a well-developed knowledge of student affairs and relevant issues such as mental health, behavioural issues, alcohol and drugs.
- Must also demonstrate a sound understanding of the philosophy and operations of a residence community within a University setting.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving, mediation, crisis management and communications (written, oral and presentation) skills and a good working knowledge of group dynamics.
- Must demonstrate experience with supervision, leadership, team management and conflict management skills.
- Must possess and demonstrate strong research, program planning, development and presentation, training and evaluation skills.
- Must possess administrative office experience with the ability to multi-task with a demanding workload and to work creatively and independently employing good organizational skills.
- Competence in the use of a computer, including at least intermediate ability with database, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Access, desktop publishing, World Wide Web administration and Banner. The incumbent must be up-to-date with technological change.
- Due to the nature of the community, sensitivity to intersectionality, oppression, equity and diversity as key social issues within the residence community is essential in developing a positive learning environment, programs and workshops for the residents.
- The duties of this position require that the incumbent live in the Residence with the understanding that the lifestyle of the residence community requires the incumbent to be

flexible, with the need to work frequent irregular hours including weekend, evenings, overnights and summer months. An on-call rotation schedule will be established to ensure resources are available after hours to respond to the needs of the residence community.
- Expected to show a strong presence to the students and staff and to be visible at the various events, and in the dining hall and residence buildings. This is in order to foster connection with students in the residence community.
- Must be able to work effectively independently, as well as, part of a team in the response and resolution to issues within the residence community.
- Must be able to exercise good judgment in setting priorities and balancing deadlines.
- Must possess high energy and the proven ability to motivate others.
- Upon selection, the new hire will be required to obtain a Police and Criminal Records Check, including vulnerable sector, as a pre-condition of employment.
- Must complete all Mandatory Training requirements.

**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through:

- The completion of a four-year university bachelor’s degree, in related areas such as psychology, education, Student Affairs.
- Minimum of three years of recent University or college residence work experience in a leadership position with progressive administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
- Includes at least one year of supervisory experience and two years of recent experience living in a University or college residence system.
