The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council is comprised of the five member Nations and is responsible for providing guidance and support to the individual member First Nations in developing and achieving success in the management and administration of their own programs with the intent of developing self-reliance.
The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council is comprised of the member Nations of; Loon River First Nation - #476, Lubicon Lake Band - #453, Peerless Trout First Nation - #478, Whitefish Lake First Nation - #459 and Woodland Cree First Nation - #474. It was formed in 1995 to facilitate joint action by the member Nations on matters of mutual concern.

The Colorectal Cancer Research Project will work to increase the number of First Nations members that are screened regularly using the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT). It will use Cree based resources and in person education and sharing circles to help increase the rates of colorectal screening. The project will collect data about rates of required referrals and colonoscopy results to determine the prevalence of colorectal cancer in the First Nations communities within KTC.
The Research Project Assistant will work with healthcare providers to promote colorectal cancer screening within First Nations communities by providing information, education, raising awareness, providing access to FIT’s, ensuring culturally sensitive approaches and addressing barriers to participation. Additionally, the Project Assistant will develop policies, monitor test results, provide referrals as needed, collect and interpret data, and report on the program’s progress.
**Responsibilities**:
- Working with healthcare providers to support First Nations people in getting colorectal cancer screening within the five KTC communities.
- Conduct education, awareness, and community engagement in reducing colorectal cancer prevalence.
- Providing colorectal cancer screening information and education to First Nations people and healthcare providers.
- Develop policies and procedures related to the screening program.
- Providing access to FIT’s in the KTC communities.
- Monitoring of results and completing referrals as needed.
- Involvement in collection of data, interpretation and documentation of findings.
- Attend required meetings and provide regular updates and complete reporting requirements for the project.
**Skills and Abilities**:
- Excellent and effective decision-making skills, oral and written skills, assessment skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, teaching skills and supervisory skills are required
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team with other care providers.
- Willing, capable, and flexible in working to meet the needs of the health department.
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program, LPN or RN. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with applicable licensing body.
- Valid and current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
- Computer literacy - certification and/or training in entry level usage.
- Previous experience with research projects will be considered an asset
- Education or experience in data analysis and statistics.
- Clear understanding FIT test, including its purpose, how it works, patient preparation, and follow-up care.
- Knowledge of data collection and analysis
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of indigenous health care concerns and issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Cree culture, organizations, and communities.
- Familiarity with Cree language will be considered an asset.
