The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:
- Funding supports for municipalities
- A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment
- Protections for new home buyers and required licensing for home builders
- Province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans
- Management of about 2.6 million acres of public land in the province's three Special Areas
- Independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal
**Role Responsibilities**:
**About the Role**
As a Regional Technical Advisor, you’ll play a key role in strengthening fire safety across Alberta. You’ll provide expert advice, monitor compliance, support investigations, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of fire service systems in the province.
**What You’ll Do**
1. **Advise and Support**
- Provide operational and technical guidance to municipalities, fire departments, and industry partners on fire service delivery, governance models, service agreements, and risk assessments.
- Support compliance with the Alberta Fire Code and related standards.
2. **Monitor and Ensure Quality**
- Oversee reporting and data collection for fire and casualty statistics.
- Inspect and monitor provincial fire training grounds for compliance and safety.
3. **Investigate and Analyze**
- Assist in investigations into the cause and origin of fires.
- Participate in reviews of major emergency events to help strengthen Alberta’s fire safety system.
4. **Lead and Collaborate**
- Support municipalities through fire system reviews and special projects.
- Represent the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) and Government of Alberta on provincial committees and partnerships.
5. **Educate and Engage**
- Provide regional insights to guide public education campaigns and safety initiatives.
- Promote awareness during National Fire Preparedness Week.
6.** Plan and Report**
- Contribute regional data, research, and input to inform strategies, briefings, and provincial programs.

**Qualifications**:
**Related diploma and 5 years related experience; or a related degree and 3 years related experience**.
- National Fire protection Association NFPA Standard
Asset Qualifications:
- NFPA 1021 Level 2
- NFPA 1041 Level 2
- CS 300 and above (Incidence commands Systems)
- Must have a valid class 5 Alberta driver's license
**Assets**:
- Ten years' progressively, responsible experience as a firefighter, fire services trainer and fire officer/leadership role. Experience in a municipal fire services is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with elected officials.
- Technical knowledge in both fire prevention and fire safety along with fire service experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the fire services environment, including principles, approaches and specialties that exist across Alberta.
- Thorough knowledge of the stakeholders linked to the fire services network and their positions/policies on specific and significant issues.
- Knowledge of the Emergency Management Act, especially Section 29, and other legislation that applies to the advisor role is an asset in order to support collaboration between the fire service and the GoA.
- Knowledge of data reporting systems used by the fire services network and how it supports effective decision making
- Extensive knowledge of the administration of the Safety Codes Act, its regulations and the Alberta Fire and Building Codes along with other relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
