Overview:
The primary objective is to reduce / eliminate environmental liability by ensuring the plant is operating with the requirements of the permit, regulation and the law. The incumbent will deliver the elements of the environmental management system such as ensuring audits are completed; follow up actions are completed and provide supporting on administrative duties necessary for compliance. In addition, the Environment Coordinator, works with various other departments and Country level staff to advance Lafarge Canada’s sustainability goals (decarbonization, circularity, water & nature, and people and communities) and develop long-term improvements as well as working to ensure that the Lafarge technical doctrines are implemented at the plant level.

**Responsibilities**:
**Safety**
- Follows and ensures full compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures all contracts and project site meet the Lafarge safety policy requirements for our employee’s safety.

**Environment policies and practices**
- Develop, circulate and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to control the impacts of plant activity on the environment
- Identify environmental hazards and propose preventative measures
- Develop and update an emergency and communication plan in the event of an environmental incident
- Implement the means needed to minimize, recycle and treat waste generated by the plant
- Work with project stakeholders to prepare environmental documents and related technical studies
- Set environmental department long, medium and short term goals and objectives in line with country, market and plant objectives

**Auditing, permitting, sustainability and compliance**
- Manage all compliance reporting requirements within the Eastern Canada Region, including both internal and external regulatory reporting requirements. Reporting includes but is not limited to: iCare, RDOCECA, NPRI, WTRS, HWIN, etc. Define, follow up and optimize environmental expenses
- Ensure high quality key metrics as part of the plant, region and country sustainability program in collaboration with country functions
- In support of the Environment Manager. Coordinate volunteer activities, donations, follow-up of stakeholder concerns and inquiries along with other outward facing elements.
- Ensure regulatory compliance of environmental activities and use of low carbon fuels and secondary raw materials
- Strengthen the environmental management and its integration into the regional and country systems.
- Assure the interface with environmental auditors and government authorities and implement requested improvements
- Seek ways to improve the sites environmental performances and make proposals to management
- Ensure work site activities are in compliance with site permits, approvals and applicable environmental legislation
- Support projects by ensuring the complete compliance with all applicable environmental laws and standards; environmental permits, licenses and approvals; environmental contractual obligations; environmental plans; policy and best management practices requirements
- Assist with the monitoring environmental aspects excavated materials management; erosion and sediment control; dust control; spills prevention and spills response; archaeological discoveries; protection of cultural heritage resources; and sustainability plan objectives
- Monitor permits, licenses and approval requirements/conditions implementation; identify environmental concerns and issues

**Relationships with Other Jobs**:

- The role reports to the Environmental Manager. The Environment Coordinator works closely with the Plant PLT, the members of the Geocyle team who are present on site along with the ECAN environment team and the members of the Environment & Public Affairs and the Country Head of Sustainability & Public Affairs.
- The environmental Coordinator collaborates with Government officials and consultants.
