Intermediate Construction Inspector

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is currently seeking an Intermediate Construction Inspector with a minimum of 5 years of civil construction inspection experience and client relationship management skills to join the Public Field Services Group. This role requires an individual with an extensive civil construction background as well as an in depth understanding of consultant roles and responsibilities.
As a member of the Field Services Team, you will be involved in various municipal projects, including vertical and linear infrastructure.
**Role Specifics**
Reporting to a senior manager, the individual is responsible for daily on-site review of assigned projects, including full time or periodic site reviews, to determine if the project is progressing in General Conformance with the drawings and specifications.
This individual will be required to liaise between the owner, contractor and all other project stake holders including affected members of the public.
The position will involve carrying out the following typical tasks:
- Reviewing and commenting on constructability aspects of design drawings;
- Assisting with preparation of tender and contract documents;
- Assisting with construction progress meetings and minutes;
- Conducting onsite construction review and coordinating as required with the client and contractor;
- Review of construction progress for general conformance with approved drawings and specifications for various project types;
- Liaising with municipal and governing authorities as required in support of the contract;
- Preparing and issuing site inspection reports;
- Reviewing monthly contractor progress payment draws/proper invoices and assisting with payment verification/certification;
- Reviewing/assessing contractor change requests and claims, and assisting with negotiations if/as required;
- Collecting/reviewing project as built information;
- Assisting with various contract administration duties in conjunction with the Contract Administrator;
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Some evening and weekend work may be required to facilitate the inspection requirements of assigned projects.
A valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle are mandatory to commute to project locations.
- A minimum of 5 years of civil construction inspection and client relationship management experience in both linear (sanitary collection systems, water distribution systems and roadworks) and multi-discipline (water and wastewater treatment facilities) projects
- A diploma or education in a related discipline
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint
- Ability to understand and interpret Contract Documents and Drawings
- Knowledge of Construction materials, building trades, means and methods of the construction process, project scheduling, and the contractual obligations of sub-contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers through the construction process
- Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety act and Construction Regulations
- Strong coordination and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Determination to set and manage priorities to meet all deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Self-motivated and ability to work detached from base support staff
