The Department of Biology is the largest academic unit in the Faculty of Science. Our ~40 full-time faculty members teach close to 70 courses to over 13,000 students annually, host approximately 1,300 majors, and have an average graduate enrollment of 120 - 140 students, supported by close to 30 full-time staff members. The Department is housed in six main buildings (B&GS, WSC, Collip, NCB, AFAR, and Biotron). We are broadly based in biology research and teaching, as we pursue biological knowledge from the scale of molecules to ecosystems. **Responsibilities**:
- The Technical/Research Support 1 will be responsible for carrying out research functions in collaboration with principal investigators, collaborators, and students. This position will be focussed on 1) the technical support of graduate students in the laboratory specifically related to the preparation and analyses of samples for environmental stable isotopes and 2) the preparation of egg and plasma samples for isotope and chemical analysis by principal investigators and collaborators to fulfill a project deliverable.
**NOTE: This position is expected to be filled by reappointment.**
**Q**ua**li**f**i**c**a**t**i**ons**
- Education and Experience: Minimum of Community College Diploma OR Undergraduate Degree in Biology or Environmental Science, AND a minimum of 5 years of direct experience in avian ecology and environmental stable isotope research (field and laboratory).
**S**kills,**Ab**ilities &**E**x**p**erti**s**e**:
- Demonstrated experience with with experimental design and analysis
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
- Demonstrated expertise in the preparation of environmental samples for chemical and isotope analyses (e.g. freeze drying; precision balance; ultra-clean techniques).
