Nature of the Work:
The Communications Counsellor works as part of a communications team to design and realize traditional and digital communications strategies to support the College’s institutional directions, ensuring students, staff, parents, partners and other clienteles as well as the general public, are kept informed using various channels of communication.
Specifically, the Communications Counsellor is involved in developing targeted web content and implementing communication tools and platforms to enhance web presence and effectively advance the College’s objectives, as well as to support the Communications Office’s other activities.
**Responsibilities**:
The Communications Advisor (Digital Media) assumes responsibility for leading and/or supporting activities carried out by the Communications Office in light of the College's strategic directions and goals.
Web-related Duties
- Set priorities for web development in consultation with the Coordinator of the Communications Office, senior management, Academic Administration and Information Systems and Technology (IST) in accordance with College priorities as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
- Develop social media strategies, implementation practices and sustained targeted messaging for the various College platforms, including paid digital advertising campaigns
- Create, source and update content for digital platforms including social media and the website
- Ensure all forms of digital media adhere to branding guidelines; advise community on accepted uses of branding
- Work cross-departmentally to lead digital projects, establishing priorities, timelines and facilitating execution
- Explore emerging digital platforms and tools in consultation with the Webgroup/IST, assessing suitability and feasibility
- Manage content that appears on College digital signage; oversee departmental content and train representatives
- Facilitate graphic design, videography and photography projects with external freelancers
- Develop digital media communications plans for various initiatives to ensure awareness and engagement
- Participate in the production of promotional materials for campaigns, recruitment, events and more
- Conduct training sessions and create tutorials to help users of website’s content management system manage their own pages
- Conduct continuous quality assurance reviews of existing web content on website
- Meet periodically with program coordinators, academic department chairs and service units to advise on best web practices and tools to improve their web presence on the Dawson website
- Work with Information Systems and Technology (IST), specifically the Webgroup to monitor functionality and navigation optimization throughout the website
General Communications and Major Events
- Assist, as necessary, in the planning and organization of the College’s major events
- Ensure timeliness and accuracy of information that is presented on all platforms and materials
- Use College resources for translation of short texts from English to French and vice-versa for website, communiqués, speeches, institutional communications, promotional materials, as necessary
- Work with the Office of Quality Assurance and Planning to conduct periodic e-surveys to determine effectives of online communications and materials
- Serve on College and external committees as a representative of the Communications Office
- Perform other related duties
**Requirements**:
- Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of specialization, particularly communications or new media journalism.
