Milner Group is seeking a full time Estimator to join our growing company, as a key member of our dynamic management team.

Prepare civil cost estimates for various construction projects, to aid management in bidding on and/or determining price of service. Provide leadership and oversight of secured projects. Although our head office is in Nanaimo, travelling to various job sites within Vancouver Island will be required.

**Responsibilities & Duties**
- Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments as well as construction supervision to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues if they arise
- Analyze blueprints, construction drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
- Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
- Consult with engineers, designers, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
- Prepare estimates to be used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project with assistance from accounting department
- Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
- Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to construct or sub-contract components of a project
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
- Establish and maintain tendering process, and conduct negotiations

**Required Skills**:

- Previous estimating experience preferred - 3 to 5 years
- Ability to ready and interpret civil construction drawings and perform a full material take off
- Critical thinking
- Strong communication at multiple levels of an organization
- Decision making based on both creative and logical thinking
- Resource management
- Problem solving
- Experience with Microsoft Office to assist with bidding and administration of projects
- Knowledge and experience working with Adobe, Auto CAD and/or Bluebeam is preferred
