Summer Student Events Assistant

Youth Assisting Youth (YAY) is seeking enthusiastic and committed **college or university students** to join our team this summer As a **Summer Events Assistant**, you’ll help deliver fun, inclusive, and engaging recreational activities, programs and events for underserved children and youth across Toronto and York Region. This is a rewarding opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in event planning, youth engagement and nonprofit operations, while making a real difference in young lives.

**Summer Events Assistant Responsibilities**:
1. Support the Events Coordinator in planning, promoting, and delivering summer events and recreational activities that are well organized and delivered effectively

2. Facilitate programs, activities and events, including sports, arts & crafts, games and workshops.

4. Assist with the preparation and update of event calendars and materials for the YAY website.

5. Assist with event setup and takedown, including physical activity and lifting items up to 30-50 lbs. (e.g., bottled water cases).

6. Must be available to participate in all key summer events, including:

- Annual Picnic - June 21, 2025
- Annual Overnight Youth Camp - August 14-18, 2025

7. Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Proven experience in planning events and working with children or youth in recreational, mentoring, event or community settings, including outdoor activities like summer camps, sports events, arts and crafts, etc.
- Ability to supervise volunteers
- Strong organizational skills and ability to follow through and complete tasks with mínimal supervision
- Comfortable with regular physical activity, including safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30-50 lbs. (e.g., bottled water), especially during high-demand summer events
- Creative, enthusiastic and dependable, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to evenings and occasional weekends
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and social media tools
- Cleared Police Vulnerable Sector Check (or willing to obtain upon hiring)
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certificate
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are assets (not mandatory)

**Contract Dates**: This is a full time contract position for **8 weeks**at a wage of $18.20 per hour. This position includes evening and occasional weekend work, and requires availability for all YAY events, including Picnic and Summer Camp. Access to the YAY office is easily accessible by TTC located adjacent to the Yonge-Finch subway station and opposite the Finch GO Bus Terminal.

Youth Assisting Youth is dedicated to investing in the leaders of tomorrow and transforming the lives of at-risk and newcomer youth through the power of mentorship. For over 48 years, we’ve paired volunteer young adult mentors aged 16-29, with youth ages 6-15 to engage in activities aimed to develop mind, body, character, and leadership skills. Our charity connects volunteers to enriched mentorship experiences that profoundly impact the most vulnerable youth and their families in communities across the Greater Toronto and York Region.

Pay: $18.20 per hour
