You are interested in systems thinking and bring a broad knowledge of the world to your work. **Responsibilities**: The Research Assistant will support Innovation North’s research projects and activities by: - Researching, analyzing and synthesizing information from an array of sources such as academic journals, business reports, news articles, and data sets - Observing and transcribing interviews with individual stakeholders to get a deeper understanding of the research problem and potential actions - Drafting and formatting project deliverables such as literature reviews, environmental scans, gap analyses, briefing notes, final reports, and presentations - Participating in internal research team meetings by presenting key research findings and potential recommendations for project clients - Ensuring research data (e.g. research documents, video recordings) is stored safe and securely in compliance with Research Ethics requirements - Collaborating with other research assistants and researchers to ensure tasks are completed on time - Providing administrative support such as booking meetings and interviews as needed **Qualifications**: **Education**: Must be a full time student at Western (enrolled in minimum 3.5 courses), and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointment **Experience**: Previous work experience in a similar role or within the department Skills, Abilities & Expertise: - Self-learner who is interested in sustainability and systems thinking, while constantly exposing themselves to new ideas - Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for both academic and business audiences - Strong critical thinking and time management skills - Personable and courteous in working relationships with researchers, practice partners and key stakeholders - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team - Comfortable analyzing data such as reports, media articles, interview transcripts, and academic journals - Tech savvy - familiar with Microsoft Office, project management software (e.g. Basecamp), collaboration tools (e.g. Miro), and data visualization techniques - Note that this position is expected to be filled by reappointment **Why Western?**: Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications.
