**Job Posting**

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Security, the Security Specialist is responsible for installation, maintenance and repair of security systems and software owned and operated by HRM. This position works closely with other security unit members, as well as other Business Units, and supervises work performed by contracted employees. The Security Specialist provides education regarding security policies, procedures and standards, as well as training on security systems, to HRM management and staff.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Installation, maintenance and repair of all HRM security systems and software, including intrusion alarms, CCTV and access control systems.
- Project management of security system installations, including attending project meetings, reviewing tender documents, creating technical schematics (such as electrical wiring diagrams and hardware schedules), providing architectural hardware recommendations, performing software programming changes, supervising/directing contractors, client software installation, system commissioning (ex. reviewing physical system installation for deficiencies) and conducting onsite training with system users, as required.
- Read, interpret and provide feedback on drawings for all renovations and buildings.
- Maintaining the integrity of HRM’s physical security systems and software by performing software maintenance and upgrades, working with ICT on database and communication service configuration/maintenance, designing/implementing technical solutions and supervising/auditing contractor work within security systems and software. Installation, maintenance and repair of electronic key boxes and associated software, including those utilized by law enforcement, transit and revenue services.
- Provide support to the Manager, Corporate Security during investigations, as required, including researching/recommending/installing investigative technology solutions, data mining, and assisting with surveillance.
- Provide assistance during labour disruptions by ensuring physical access to buildings and security software/programs is maintained and/or removed/revoked, as required;
- Respond to emergency requests for security system repairs;
- Service and maintain mechanical locks and related door hardware;
- Collaborate with internal trades and contractors, as required;
- Issue keys to authorized HRM staff and maintain the key inventory;
- Order parts, equipment, software and devices as required;
- Maintain asset repair data to assist with Life Cycle Management;
- Input asset information into asset management database

**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education & Experience**:

- Nova Scotia Alarm and security specialist Certification with a minimum of 5 years of related experience;
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working on and installing various intrusion alarm software platforms and equipment; certification for Bosch intrusion alarm software will be considered an asset;
- Certification for Lenel Onguard and Avigilon video management software;
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with and installing telecommunications structured cabling; Minimum 3 years project management experience;
- Locksmith Trade Certification or related experience as a locksmith, will be considered an asset;
- Clean Drivers Abstract.

**Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities**:

- Knowledgeable on the design, installation and management of security system projects;
- Knowledge of networking principles and basic trouble shooting skills for network issues;
- Knowledge of databases and database functionality;
- Strong data management, organizational, decision-making skills;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work independently;
- Knowledge of asset management and control practices;
- Basic knowledge of Health and Safety policies and procedures relating to work environment;
- Knowledgeable on employee and asset security issues;
- Knowledge of HRM’s Procurement Policy would be considered an asset.

**Security Clearance Requirements**: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

**WORK STATUS**: Term, full-time (up to 8 months)

**HOURS OF WORK**: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm, 35 hours per week

**SALARY**: Non-union level 5, $66,170 - $85,630, salary will be commensurate with education and years of applicable experience.

**WORK LOCATION**: 375 Cowie Hill Rd, Halifax, various locations
