Thrift Store Relief

Number of Positions to Fill: 1
The Thrift Store Relief staff will provide front-line customer service and help maintain a positive shopping experience. The position will assist with product selection, pricing, and merchandising decisions with attention to seasonal trends, retail best practices, and product availability. Reporting to the Warehouse and Thrift Store Supervisor, the Thrift Store Relief will also support the execution of the marketing strategy for The Mustard Seed’s Thrift Store and Online Store.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Exemplify strong customer service and sales skills; manage customer complaints and concerns.
- Care for staff, donors, volunteers, community participants, and other customers.
- Assist with merchandising, pricing, and store layout decisions according to trends, best practices, and sales history.
- Help develop a marketing strategy to increase brand awareness and in-store & online traffic coordinated by The Thrift Store Team Lead.
- Create and distribute online/social media marketing content.
- Engage in loss prevention procedures.
- Collaborate with Warehouse and assist as requested.
- Abide by all Health and Safety protocols and procedures (ex. incident reports, near misses), and mandatory training courses (NVCI, Safe Talk, First Aid)
- Other duties as assigned.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Experience in a retail environment is an asset
- Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite)
- Team player, who works collaboratively and has a ‘teachable spirit’
- Empathetic towards, and ability to communicate with, individuals facing mental health, addictions, chronic illness, homelessness, poverty and related challenges
- Experience working within the culture of the inner city and/or with people experiencing poverty or homelessness is an asset
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Physical effort: moderate, periods of cleaning, sitting, standing, walking, indoors and outdoors (predominantly work indoors)
- Lift up to 50 pounds to sort, pack and move items
- This position is often fast paced and requires moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve
- Must be able to respond appropriately to intense situations, provide conflict resolution, work directly with clients at risk
- Navigating interactions with challenging clients who may exhibit unpredictable behavior, including swearing, anger, and the possibility of becoming aggressive.
