Tla-o-qui-aht is beginning to explore the process of exercising its rightful legislative and constitutional authority over child and family services (“CFS”) pursuant to An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families, S.C. 2019, c. 24 (the "Act”). The Nation is currently seeking a CFS Program Coordinator to lead this phase of the process. This is a specialized position that will require an in-depth understanding of the Provincial and Federal child and family services system, with attention to the existing gaps in the provision of child and family services to Tla-o-qui-aht members. This position will evolve as Tla-o-qui-aht’s capacity grows. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a supportive team while promoting the best interests of families, children, and youth. This position will be under the direct supervision of the Tla-o-qui-aht Health Director. **Duties and Responsibilities: **The CFS Program Coordinator (the “Coordinator”) will be responsible for leading the exploration of exercising jurisdiction over child and family services at the community level, including building capacity. This work will be conducted in stages as Tla-o-qui-aht’s capacity grows and future In the initial phase, under the direction of Tla-o-qui-aht Health Director, the Coordinator will be responsible for planning and overseeing regular community engagement sessions on child and family services, as well as building capacity in the community to support the transfer of jurisdiction, which includes program creation and development and hiring people to fill these roles. The Coordinator will also foster a working relationship with existing CFS providers to ensure collaboration between parties to best support Tla-o-qui-aht during the capacity building project. This will include meeting with representatives from agencies and authorities to create a plan for data-sharing and collaboration. In addition to leading work at the community level, the Coordinator will also be responsible for with other staff, as available, to meet reporting requirements for funding. **Knowledge and Experience** - A minimum of a Degree/Bachelor of Social Work from a post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience - 2-5 years’ experience within a management role in human services, such as program coordination, delivery, and evaluation - An understanding of the Nuu-chah-nulth language will be considered an asset - A strong and demonstrated knowledge of _An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis _ - children, youth and families, S.C. 2019, c. 24_, as well as other First Nation policies and legislation (i.e. Jordan’s Principle, UNDRIP, etc.) - Applied knowledge of the British Columbia _Child, Family and Community Service Act_ - An understanding of the child welfare system in Canada_ _ - Direct experience working within First Nations communities - Experience in data management, record keeping, and program reporting - Respect for Indigenous culture, history and issues, and a willingness to learn - Strong commitment to confidentiality **Preferred Qualifications: ** Knowledge of Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations history, traditional ceremonies, language, and culture.
