Summerhill Market is a boutique grocery store chain in Toronto that specializes in scratch-made prepared foods and on-trend ingredients. Our stores go above and beyond a typical grocery store by offering an extensive rotating selection of ready to eat gourmet meals, freshly baked goodies, and curated hard to find groceries.
We are searching for a **Junior Meat Cutter (training to be provided)**, who will be responsible to provide an exceptional customer experience, while packaging and processing raw meat items according to our daily orders, and customer’s needs, using various equipment and methods.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Provide an exceptional customer experience, assisting our customers in selecting meat products and options according to their needs
- Cut, set, and merchandise all meat products in the display case, as per pricing menu and according to merchandising standards
- Package meat products by weight or by piece, manually or machine assisted, following outlined specifications
- Perform basic quality control checks including measuring, weighing, counting, and evaluating product or package appearance; examining and inspecting containers, materials, and products to ensure specifications are met
- Mark and label products, using printed labels and automated machines
- Load materials and products into package processing equipment
- Operate and maintain various machinery (examples: ILPRA gas flush machines and Unifiller equipment)
- Follow all health and safety standards; maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary meat department; keeping the work area and machinery clean, using designated cleaning solutions and hand tools as required
**Skillset requirements**:
- Experience in the food & grocery industry is required
- Expert knife skills and knowledge of cuts & meat processing methods is required
- Expert knowledge in Health & Safety protocols related to sanitation and food handling is required
- Experience as a machine operator is an asset
- Food Handler’s certification is an asset
- WHMIS certification is an asset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work in a temperature-controlled environment (10°C)
- Able to lift, push, pull up to 50lbs
- Able to work standing for 8.5hrs/5 days a week

Entry level positions in the grocery store begin at $16.55 per hour and will increase based on food/kitchen experience.
