**Company Description**

Zymeworks is seeking a motivated professional looking to grow their career within our company. The Associate Scientist will evaluate and implement relevant technologies to improve internal therapeutic design. He/She will also provide hands-on support for protein engineering efforts in early discovery programs to develop new platforms and identify novel targets for pipeline therapeutics.

This position will report to Principal Scientist, Protein Engineering and is onsite in Vancouver, BC.

**As a condition of employment, Zymeworks requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and provide verification of such. To be considered fully vaccinated, all 3 doses are required.**

**Key Responsibilities**
- Collaborate with different functional teams to accelerate therapeutic hit-to-lead and discovery activities by developing and implementing novel in silico protein engineering or antibody discovery workflows.
- Evaluate, benchmark and implement external in silico technologies in collaboration with protein engineers to support internal research programs.
- Maintain databases, write scripts to extract data, analyze large dataset and identify statistically relevant trends.
- Participates in the preparation of patents and publications.
- Checks, organizes, analyzes and reports data produced. Prepares reports, documents and standard operating procedures for internal use.
- Participates in departmental activities and presents data in cross-functional team meetings.
- Fosters effective and collaborative working relationships with fellow employees, management and external partners.

**Qualifications and Education**
- Requires a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Structural Biology or related field), and up to 2 years’ related experience. Equivalent combination of academic and work experience will be considered.
- Good understanding of protein structures, protein-protein interactions, and protein chemistry.
- Experience in computational modeling, design of novel proteins and structure prediction (Haddock, Rosetta, AlphaFold etc.).
- Experience with structure visualization software (Pymol, Chimera, CCP4, COOT, etc.).
- Proficient with at least one scripting language (Python, R, etc).
- Experience in analyzing large data sets and good background in using statistical tests to evaluate meaningful trends desired.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high paced, fast changing environment.
- Good oral communication, scientific/technical writing skills, and ability to present data with integrity at team and intra-departmental meetings.
