We are seeking an Airport Planner to join the expanding Aviation Planning group in our North region (Montreal/Toronto office). Arup is working with preeminent airport, airline and industry clients regionally and globally who are taking a long-term view and developing projects and programs to address the challenges of the coming years. These span the socio, economic and environmental spectrum to deliver long term sustainable development.
Project types include airport master plans throughout the world - recent examples include Mexico City New International Airport, Istanbul New Airport, Barcelona, Madrid, Venice, Solidarity Transport Hub (CPK), Western Sydney Airport; as well as aviation planning projects (landside, terminal, and airside) throughout North America, including Montreal Trudeau, Toronto Pearson, Los Angeles, New York JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Chicago O’Hare, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle-Tacoma, Houston, Dallas Fort Worth and many others.

**Responsibilities may include**:
- Developing, elaborating, and evaluating conceptual alternatives for major elements of airport infrastructure including airfield, passenger terminal, landside access, cargo, and support areas.
- Establishing designs and layouts for passenger terminals and airport facilities including conceptual plans, passenger flow, operational analysis, and high-level phasing.
- Conducting spreadsheet analyses, using custom in-house or commercial software, to develop facility requirements, analyze connection flows and walking distances, and option analysis for individual airport components or systems of components.
- Communicating and working with staff at all levels participating in project work.
- Working with Arup’s Global Aviation Planning group and local Transportation Planning group to augment and refine custom in-house analytical tools, and/or develop new tools and methodologies.
- CAD and graphic support for a variety of airport planning project types, including ground transport, passenger terminal and airside.
- Business development, including meeting with clients, developing proposals, promoting the firm.
- Contribute to ORAT specific and wider business development, including finding opportunities within existing client relationships, and developing compelling & winning proposals and pitch documents
- Support the existing ORAT networks in the region by providing additional capacity and diverse experience
**Requirements**:
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree and professional license additionally beneficial in Transport Planning, Architecture, or related field.
- 8+ years’ progressively responsible experience in aviation planning, transport planning, or related field, reflecting a professional awareness of today’s aviation industry, as well as the planning, design, construction, financing, operation, and regulation of airports.
- Experience in project management, change management and/or operations management/consulting.
- Knowledge of and experience delivering planning work to meet international policies, regulations, and airport planning standards (ICAO / IATA, FAA, other country-specific).
- Some level of Project Management experience, including establishment of project scopes and budgets, managing tasks and workflows, interfacing with clients.
**Software Capabilities**:
Intermediate or advanced capabilities in the use of industry standard software, for example:
- CAD / GIS platforms, such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS or Revit.
- Graphics and presentation software packages, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint
- Analytical and database tools such as MS Excel, Access.
**Qualities**:
- Bilingual (French/English) is preferred
- A commitment to technical accuracy and quality work.
- Good interpersonal skills crucial for team-based working, often in distributed offices.
- Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.
- Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
