We are seeking a dedicated and organized Activities Convenor to join our team at our new independent living community at 260 Pioneer Rd, Spruce Grove, AB. The Activities Convenor plans, implements and evaluates recreation and social programs in accordance with Residents’ needs. Acts as a liaison between the community and the facility to develop programs and resources that will enhance and promote Residents’ interests, socialization and well-being. Co-ordinates the activities of volunteers and staff assisting with recreational programs and activities. Assists with various administrative and clerical functions as required.

**POSITION SPECIFICS**
- Designs holistic programs which address the physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs of the Residents.
- Creates and maintains an activities binder which includes the goals and objectives of each activity.
- Encourages and supports all staff to place a high priority on meeting the socialization needs of the residents by actively participating in the client-centered activity program.
- Facilitates resident-initiated activities by assuring that residents have the tools and equipment to pursue their interests and to complete their activities.
- Coordinates the volunteer program and encourages the community at large to become meaningfully involved in the life of the facility.
- Interviews, orientates and evaluates volunteers and maintains records of volunteer activities and reports to the Manager.
- Assists in escorting Residents on field trips.
- Coordinates and confirms weekly entertainment.
- Coordinates Activities of Volunteers and Staff assisting with recreational programs.
- Assists in the development and management of the annual recreation budget. Ensures adherence to budget requirements.
- Communicates with the Manager and Staff to ensure adequate support for recreation programs.
- Composes program calendars, posters, and newsletters for program information for Residents, families, volunteers and community/public awareness. Incorporates residents’ changing needs and interests in the development of the calendar.
- Assesses social/leisure needs of each resident in order to develop an individualized activities program for the resident.
- Coordinates special events which encourage and facilitate family and community attendance and participation.
- Plans and coordinates programs and resources that are designed to meet identified leisure needs.
- Assists with meal time service.
- Maintains clean and tidy work space and activity areas.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:

- A Certificate in Recreation Therapy is required.
- Other Recreation courses will be considered.

**Experience**:

- At least two years experience in coordinating recreation programs is required.
- Experience working with seniors is preferred.

Position Requirements:

- Proficiency using MS Word and Publisher is required.
- Program organization and public relations skills are preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- The business language of the corporation is English. Knowledge of a second language would be an asset.
- Completion of a Criminal Records Check through BackCheck or Police Services.
