To supervise and coordinate Solid Waste Litter Operations vehicles and/or equipment maintenance requirements, scheduling repairs, overseeing warranty related issues and vehicle and/or equipment procurement requirements; to supervise and assist staff with Litter Operations and Logistics, and to provide leadership and coordinate training requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

- Implements detailed plans and commends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
- Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests, as needed. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, hears grievances and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Monitors, reviews, and ensures that all required reports are prepared and processed in a timely and efficient manner and that proper records are maintained as required.
- Develops, coordinates, and implements the appropriate health and safety policies and ensures all regular and annual training is undertaken and documented.
- Develops/implements and assesses new procedures/programs to increase staff effectiveness while establishing a framework for training program outcomes to implement program improvements as appropriate.
- Identifies opportunities that focus on cost reductions, quality improvements, risk mitigation, industry and supply trends and shift in technology.
- Manages learning plans for all employees including enrollment and tracking completion of new-hire training requirements and any required refresher training.
- Conducts on-the-job training programs for staff to ensure continual awareness of changes in automative technology including facilitating large group training sessions.
- Promotes and enhances safety in vehicles and/or equipment by assessing and implementing training requirements in new fleet technologies and analyzing performance indicators while assuming the responsibility of the division’s recruitment initiatives and onboarding training of new Solid Waste hires, along with the yearly In-Service training for all staff.
- Supervises the maintenance of vehicles and/or equipment and specialized equipment in accordance with Divisional and City policies/procedures and Provincial and Federal regulations.
- Reviews performance and compliance with contracted service vendors.
- Responds to internal/external complaints, ensuring quality customer service by evaluating, recommending, and resolving issues.
- Ensures that efficient vehicle service is always maintained in accordance with the divisional operating policies and procedures and ensures vendor warrant requirements are fulfilled.
- Ensures that all maintenance policies and procedures are uniformly understood and effectively carried out by the vehicle maintenance staff.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with other units in the division.
- Liaise with Fleet Safety & Fleet Maintenance to ensure overall operational compliance and service standards are being met.
- Provides information and guidance to drivers and supervisors about City driver-training policies, Federal and Provincial guidelines and rules regarding driver training and City vehicles and/or equipment.
- Works with Purchasing and Materials Management Division and Fleet Services to develop, create, and evaluate tender documents for vehicle purchase proposals and provides recommendations for contract award.
- Supervises assigned staff and ensures compliance with all applicable legislation such as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant codes and regulations. Provides staff with a safe and healthy work environment through the development/implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
- Investigates accidents to provide recommendation/implementation on prevention.
