Working with other members of the Food Service team, the Kitchen Disher will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the Food Service Department. This includes the cleaning and sanitization of all dishes and equipment used by the Food Service team to prepare and cook meals, as well as dishes used by guests, staff and volunteers during meals as part of our Food Service offering. - October, this position will be employed on weekends only on a part-time, casual basis, with work hours dependent upon guest bookings and staffing needs. Overview: A short 20 minute water taxi ride from Horseshoe Bay, Camp Fircom is situated on a 120-acre waterfront property with access to ample recreational opportunities, including swimming beaches and hiking trails. Living Arrangements: Shared accommodation is provided in a small unheated cabin without plumbing, electricity, or internet. Access to a shared washroom designated for staff use is provided, and there is wifi available in several communal spaces. Meals are included when guests are on site and Food Service is offered. Dates: Full-Time Start date - June 26, 2025; Full-Time End Date - September 1, 2025 (with possibility of part-time weekend work from mid-May through to June 25th and September 2nd through to mid-October) Wage: $17.40 per hour, plus accommodation, all meals when Food Service is offered, water taxi fares (two return trips per month during July and August), & staff shirt Duties and Responsibilities: Training: - Actively participating in staff training opportunities throughout the term of the contract Dishwashing: - Ensuring the availability of clean dishes by washing dishes, pots, pans, and flatware, and putting them away in their proper places - Cleaning machines and appliances used in the kitchen, such as coffee makers, pots and pans, mixers, etc. - Keeping the dishwasher and dish pit clean, and reporting any functional or mechanical issues to the Head Chef/Food Service Director - Maintaining Dishwasher Log for temperature, detergent, and sanitizer levels - Ensuring sanitary wash cycles are happening (this will be done using test strips on a daily basis) Kitchen Maintenance & Cleanliness: - Sweeping and mopping floors, especially in the event that items are broken or spilled - Taking out the trash and rinsing garbage cans on a nightly basis Camp Fircom Society Of the United Church of Canada PO Box 94027 6655 Royal Avenue West Vancouver, BC V7W 2B8 Registered Charity # 11882 7153 RR0001 General: - Being sensitive to, and striving toward, fulfilling the mission and values of Camp Fircom - Carrying out other duties as required, including but not limited to, assisting with the unloading of food deliveries and storing of food, as well as the preparation and plating of food when extra support is needed Safety: - Adhering to all kitchen and health procedures - Developing a working knowledge of Camp Fircom’s Staff Manual and Policy and Procedure Manual - Learning Camp Fircom’s Emergency Procedures and being prepared for emergencies - Reporting kitchen accidents or violations of food safety codes and procedures to the Head Chef/Food Service Director - Taking ownership for the safety of guests, volunteers and fellow staff, and actively managing risk Reporting and Evaluations: - The Kitchen Disher reports to the Head Chef/Food Service Director, who will lead a goal setting and evaluation process for the Kitchen Disher - The Kitchen Disher reports to the Sous Chef/Assistant Food Service Director when the Head Chef/Food Service Director is away from the kitchen Qualifications: - Age 16 or older - Previous volunteer or work experience - Ability to work well independently and as part of a team - Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends - Strong organizational and interpersonal skills - Exceptional time management skills - Ability to stand or walk for 8-hour shifts, and bend, lift, and carry 50 pounds Assets: - Current Level 1 Food Safe - Experience as a Kitchen Disher in a commercial kitchen - Experience living in a remote work setting - Fluency in second language - First Aid & CPR certification please.
