The Supervisor, Underwriting Operations, is responsible for providing leadership to the underwriting team and overseeing daily front-line operations. This role responds to agency and claims escalations, maintaining a strong member focused approach while ensuring profitable risk selection. This job contributes to the business unit’s and AMA’s success by engaging, coaching and mentoring the team and fostering positive work relationships. - WHAT MOVES YOU - You have outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to select and implement solutions. - One of the favourite parts of your job is being able to share your knowledge and experience to help others grow and excel in their careers. - Your excellent communication skills make it easy to get people on board and excited about working with you. - Prioritizing, planning and organizing comes as naturally to you as breathing. - You have the ability to make intelligent decisions using sound judgment and reason. - You excel under pressure — in fact, you pride yourself on staying cool and calm even in the midst of chaos. - WHAT YOU’LL DO - Report to Director, Underwriting and Product. - Resolve agency complaints and escalations by actively listening to members’ needs and finding innovative, forward-thinking solutions and coverage. - Effectively communicate decision-making reasoning to underwriters, advisors and members in an empathetic and professional manner. - Understands and applies best business practices towards compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with regulatory standards. - Effectively communicate underwriting practices, information and changes in a timely and accurate manner to all relevant audiences. - Recommend and develop training opportunities for underwriters and advisors. - Effectively build trust with team members and stakeholders, gaining buy-in to company initiatives. - WHAT YOU’VE DONE - You have a post-secondary degree or diploma in business or a related field. - You have a minimum of 5 years insurance industry experience, indicating a progressively increased level of responsibility. - You hold a CIP or FCIP designation. - You have demonstrated leadership ability by motivating and influencing others towards the achievement of common goals and objectives. - You exhibit sound knowledge of AMA Insurance products, guidelines and policy wordings. - You have knowledge of the insurance industry and market conditions and trends. - You are positive, ambitious, highly motivated and goal oriented.
