Sturgeon Public School Division is currently seeking a part-time temporary Child and Youth Care Worker to provide a full range of support services for students at our Camilla School.Camilla School moved into its new building in 2022 and is located 15 minutes northwest of the City of St. Albert in the Hamlet of Riviere Qui Barre. Camilla School includes diverse programming from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9 with 500 students and 50 staff. Camilla School has a strong culture of educational excellence and support for students with diverse learning needs.
The Child and Youth Care Worker will work directly with the teachers and educational assistants to support Elementary students in the Kindergarten classroom. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Observe, assess and document student behaviours and safety needsMonitor, support and participate in classroom activitiesTeach and assist students in appropriate classroom and life skillsProvide assistance and encouragement with academicsBuild trust and rapport with students through activities and personal interactionsProvide alternate ways to cope with developmental and situational problemsIntervene in crisis situations as necessaryMaintain a therapeutic approach to behaviour managementCollaborate with the classroom teacher in regard to problem-solving and decision-makingKeep informed of current professional trends in the field of child careParticipate and assist in facilitating school events and professional development learning EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor Degree in Child and Youth Care or Social Work is preferredA Diploma in Child and Youth Care may be consideredAt least 2 years working experience in a related roleKnowledge of addiction and mental health Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families First Aid is an assetSuicide Training and Indigenous Cultural Training is requiredTherapeutic Crisis Intervention and Children and Residential Experience Training is requiredA passion for outdoor education would be an assetSturgeon Public Schools offers a competitive salary range from $ 31.27 to $40.12 per hour based on experience and education as per the General Employment Conditions.
