**JOB SUMMARY**

As a Guardian for Homalco, you will play a crucial role in the Nation's territorial stewardship efforts. You will be responsible for overseeing cultural and archaeological values, identified wildlife values of concern, and resource management within Homalco territory. This position reports to the Guardian Supervisor and is part of the Guardian Program, which is vital to Homalco's land and governance initiatives.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Conduct regular vessel and vehicle patrols and monitoring of land & water use activities and wildlife harvesting & tourism within Homalco territory. This includes assisting with management of Homalco and non-First Nations LEH elk hunters in territory particularly in Orford and Homathko camps.
- Maintain vessel, vehicle, ROV and other operational equipment
- Attend project sites at request of referral coordinator as directed by the guardian supervisor and document and report cultural, archaeological, and environmental observations
- Assist with collection of science (i.e. foreshore mapping) and traditional use knowledge in the Homalco territory. Assist in the protection, preservation and restoration of cultural sites and artifacts.
- Monitor wildlife and their habitats, with a focus on species of concern.
- Assist with managing and conducting food social and ceremonial harvesting.
- Support community clean up, fire smart program, fish & wildlife habitat restoration and bear conflict management and other duties.
- Maintaining Homalco field cabins and potential security checks of remote client sites.
- Engage in resource management activities as directed.
- Participate in training and skill development programs.
- Collaborate with other guardians and the Coordinator to implement the Strategic Annual Plan
- Assist with the Homalco Hatchery operations and stock assessment activities as needed.
- Engage and ccollaborate with sister nations, community members and external stakeholders in a professional manner
- Contribute to the development of partnerships with resource users.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Knowledge of Homalco culture, traditions, and territory
- Understanding of natural resource management principles
- Strong observational and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical fitness and comfortable with outdoor work in various weather conditions
- Proficiency in using GPS, mapping tools, and basic computer software
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Natural Resource Management, or related field preferred
- Previous experience in environmental monitoring, guardian, fisheries, or forestry is an asset
- Traditional ecological knowledge is highly valued

**LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS**
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License (or willingness to obtain)
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- SVOP / Boat operator's certificate is an asset

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Regular outdoor work in various weather conditions and terrains
- Isolated field and camp work, may require cooking and cleaning field cabins
- Requires overnight stays in remote locations
- Flexible schedule, including potential weekend and evening work
- Based out of the Band Office in Campbell River, with frequent field work

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Successful completion of a criminal record check
- Commitment to upholding Homalco values and principles
- Willingness to engage in the 13-moon seasonal cycle activities
- Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests, as the position involves operating vessels, vehicles and machinery such as a chainsaw
