- As an Urban Conservation Lead, you will manage the Urban Conservation Portfolio that protects, enhances and manages the ecological value and function of natural environment parks now and into the future. You will provide leadership and expertise in ecologically based planning, operations and management of the natural environment, habitat and wildlife, foster stewardship and awareness, and promote relationships and/or partnerships in the management and appropriate use of natural areas. Primary Duties include:

- Review and comment on master plans, development plans, regional policy plans, that impact natural areas.
- Provide expertise and consultative services to developers, planners, other Business Units and special interest groups related to projects, plans, education, communications that impact natural areas.
- Lead strategic planning (short and long term) and delivery of city-wide goals, priorities and work plans for natural environment parks including all related planning, restoration and maintenance activities.
- Identify and manage operational budget and coordinate capital budget requirements related to natural areas.
- Ensure assets are maintained to consistent standards, develop and monitor the biophysical inventory.
- Manage all Human Resource functions related to the Urban Conservation Portfolio.
- Represent Parks and the City of Calgary and interpret legislation, policies in matters related to natural environment parks and environmentally significant areas.

**Qualifications**
- A degree in natural sciences i.e., Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
- At least 8 years of experience in environmental assessment and development with a focus on habitat management, restoration ecology and ecosystem management, biological inventories, and impact assessments.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Strong understanding of policy development, urban planning and development, natural resource law, and legislation relevant to natural environment protection and municipal development, i.e., Municipal Government Act, Water Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Wildlife Act and Public Lands Act will be considered assets.
- Success in this position requires strategic planning, interpersonal and leadership skills, communication skills, financial management, project management and negotiating skills.

**Working Conditions**:Occasionally required to visit construction sites for Parks capital projects, subdivision developments and natural areas. Drives to off-site meetings.

- Compensation: Level F $94,168 - 144, 228 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
-work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
