Music Director

The CBY Academy of Performing Arts is seeking a **Music Director** for _The CBY Showstoppers_, our flagship youth musical theatre program. This is a rewarding opportunity to join a vibrant, collaborative team and help bring the magic of live theatre to life for young performers in Waterdown and beyond.

**Program details**:

- **Start Date**: September 2025
- **Schedule**: Mondays and Thursdays, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM.
- **Term**: September to June (full academic year)
- **Location**: The CBY Academy of Performing Arts, Waterdown, Ontario
- **Pay**: $35 per hour

**Role Overview**:
As **Music Director**, you will play a central role in the artistic and educational journey of our students (ages 6-12). You’ll be responsible for:

- Teaching songs and vocal arrangements to large groups of children
- Playing piano during rehearsals
- Supporting the overall delivery of the program alongside the Director and Choreographer,
helping prepare two full musical productions each season (Winter and Spring)
- Is a strong sight reader on piano and can confidently accompany rehearsals
- Can sing and help students with melody, harmony, and vocal technique
- Enjoys teaching children in group settings and can manage a room with warmth and clarity
- Is engaging, encouraging, and patient with young performers
- Can collaborate effectively with other creatives and bring a shared vision to life
- Has experience in musical theatre, ensemble performance, live music, or instrumental work

It will be considered a bonus if you have:

- Previous experience as a Music Director for youth or community productions
- Vocal coaching or choir directing experience

**About the Program**:
Now going into its 5th year, _The CBY Showstoppers_ has become the largest youth musical theatre program in Waterdown and Flamborough. The program is responsible for training over 70 students aged 6-18, all of whom come to the CBY Academy to develop their skills and love of musical theatre. There are three age divisions: _The CBY Junior Showstoppers_ (grades 1-4), _The CBY Intermediate Showstoppers_ (grades 5-8) and _The CBY Senior Showstoppers_ (grades 8-12). Previous shows include _Annie Jr, Shrek Jr, Finding Nemo Jr and Matilda Jr._

**About the CBY Academy**

Since 2017, The CBY Academy has been providing high-quality performing arts education to young people from Waterdown, Hamilton, Burlington, and beyond. The academy features a busy and vibrant private lessons department, with over 120 students attending weekly one-on-one music lessons across multiple disciplines, including voice, piano, guitar, drums, and flute. In addition, the academy offers a thriving group programs department, welcoming 140 students each week for training in musical theatre, stage and film acting, and dance. The academy won “Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2021 and “Small Business of the Year” in 2024 at the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards. The academy also runs Camp CBY, the largest performing arts summer camp in the area.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 per week
