**Position Summary**:
The Visitor Information Counsellor will assist with welcoming and providing general visitor information to visitors to our community. This is a new role for the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, to manage and site the Annapolis Royal Visitor Information Centre at the front entry to the Gardens.

As one of the key tourist destinations in Nova Scotia, Annapolis Royal has a wealth of heritage and cultural sites and attractions and well as many nature and outdoor sites. There are lots of unique business, accommodations, eateries and studios. Beyond our community, the region has even more sites of interest and reasons to keep visitors in our area.

A key role for the Counsellors will be to make all visitors feel welcome, to help them find their way around our community and to assist them in learning more about everything they will experience here. At the end of the day, our goal is to ensure they have a memorable visit to Annapolis Royal and area, and want to return again.

Duties will include some or all of the following:

- _assisting with activities and special events_
- _cleaning and sanitization of visitor facilities_
- _responding to visitor needs and inquiries_
- _ensuring visitors are aware of site safety protocols and measures_
- _other duties as instructed by the Manager_

**General Expectations on the Job**:

- must interact well with co-workers
- practice proper and safe use of tools and equipment
- positive interaction with visitors and responding to their inquiries
- able to work independently with mínimal supervision
- be vigilant about safety protocols

**Skills Required (prerequisite)**:

- good general knowledge of the Gardens and excellent knowledge on the area
- acceptable level of gardening and tourism knowledge and/or experience
- proper and safe use of tools, equipment and cleaners as directed
- physically able and willing to do physical work

**Working Conditions**:

- able and willing to work in a variety of conditions (inclement weather, distractions)
- able and willing to do shift work (weekends and evenings as required)
- ability to react to new situations and emergencies

**Hours of Work**:

- Work Term: 8 weeks
- Hours: 35 hours per week. Half hour unpaid lunch.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 8 weeks

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
