About the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO)

Ottawa is built on un-ceded Algonquin Anishinabek territory. The peoples of the Algonquin Anishinabek Nation have lived on this territory for millennia and we honour them and this land. Their culture and presence have nurtured and continue to nurture this land. CHEO also honours all First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and their valuable past and present contributions to this land.

CHEO is one of the few stand-alone, global leaders in pediatric health and is home to nearly 4,500 staff, medical staff, and learners dedicated to helping children and youth live their best lives. Ranked in the top 1% of Canadian hospitals for the digitization of its clinical infrastructure, CHEO combines excellence in clinical care, research, and education to advance seamless care that is provided where, when, and how it is needed. Every year, CHEO helps more than 500,000 children and youth from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut, and Northern Ontario.

CHEO has twice been named by Forbes Magazine as the best place to work in Canadian healthcare and is second among Canadian hospitals on its list of Canada’s Best Employers for 2021. The Hospital has also been recognized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers as a top employer in the National Capital Region for the 10th consecutive year in a row. CHEO’s President and CEO, Alex Munter, was awarded favourite CEO of the year by Faces Magazine in 2020.

You will be part of BORN Ontario

Funded by the Government of Ontario and administered by CHEO, the Better Outcomes Registry & Network (BORN) is Ontario’s prescribed perinatal, newborn, and child registry with the role of facilitating quality care for families across the province. BORN collects, interprets, shares, and rigorously protects high-quality data essential to making Ontario one of the safest places in the world to have a baby. BORN also manages Prenatal Screening Ontario, whose mandate is to coordinate and oversee the operations of prenatal screening services in Ontario, supporting a cohesive and high-quality screening system.

We will support you

You will be part of a highly collaborative team, all committed to equality and social justice.

We believe in continual learning, sharing, and embracing cultural humility as we address inequities and engage community. We value diverse perspectives and support people to be their authentic selves. No question is too simple, and no problem too big. We work together to support one another.

At BORN Ontario, you will act as an equity, diversity and inclusion specialist, leader, and facilitator to advance the Health Equity portfolio in support of overall strategic objectives. You develop, lead, and support strategic initiatives and projects designed to enable equitable care and outcomes.

Leading projects to assist BORN and PSO in further demonstrating the benefits of and best practices in reflecting social determinants of health, and supporting the integration of more equitable approaches in prenatal screening and perinatal care is fundamental to this role, ultimately contributing to the mission of improving and facilitating care of women, birthing individuals, and children in Ontario.

Central to this role are research, writing, and analysis to identify trends, interpret information to generate action plans for various initiatives. Priorities include building partnerships, consulting with service providers and key community partner groups on projects.
