Occupational Therapy Assistant

**Position Summary**
The main purpose of the Occupational Therapy Assistant is to provide direct and indirect support to the students Occupational Therapy services.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Indirect client support**
- Assuming transitions with students between the classroom and the therapy room
- Preparing and tidying treatment spaces, including preparation of materials required for therapeutic activities
- Maintenance and cleaning of therapy material and equipment
- Management of specialized equipment and technical aids (registration of loans, recovery, cleaning, inventory)
- Assuming the distribution and collection of forms and documents relevant to the therapeutic process
- Preparing, printing, and laminating materials
**Direct client support**
- Implementing treatment plan (sensory-motor activities) provided by the occupational therapist with students from Nursery to Grade 6
- Assist the occupational therapist during group interventions
- Assist the occupational therapist in communicating with teachers and parents to document the student’s response following the attribution of specialized equipment or scheduling appointments.
- Documenting observations and responses to intervention using checklists and questionnaires.
- Submits reports and forms promptly and within established deadlines
**Supervision and Training**
- Training offered by Annemarie Couture, consultant, and the occupational therapy team
- Supervision offered by Annemarie Couture, Occupational Therapy Consultant,
- Participation in occupational therapy sessions with the OT
- Will allow the development of relationships with the students
- Allows for opportunities to observe the OT and learn from modeling

- Experience in working with children
- Growth and developmental characteristics of children
- Knowledge of Kanien’kehá:ka and Kahnawà:ke culture and people
- A Child Care Certificate, a Teacher Assistant Certificate or a Teaching Certificate completed or in progress is an asset
- Special education background is an asset
