We partner closely with each Canadian business unit to deliver the most efficient and effective customer service through training, process improvements, and technology optimization. With over 3,000 employees, our team members work in offices across Canada, including Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Waterloo. We also partner with our Sun Life team members in the Asia Service Centre offices in India and the Philippines to deliver exceptional customer service.

There are 3 core technical skills we look for: in-depth coding knowledge of an analytical tool(s) (i.e., Python, R, C/C++); data science techniques and concepts; working with structured data (SQL). **Thirst for learning**. You are a data scientist who is constantly updating their knowledge of data science state-of-the-art.

**What will you do?**:
- Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering and requirement specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations.
- Research and source relevant data from internal business systems, external free and commercial data products.
- Focus on Feature Engineering, Model Training, and Model Evaluation in addition to data munging / wrangling.- Extract actionable insights from structured and unstructured datasets using advanced machine learning methods.
- Use statistical methods to test findings through prototyping and scenario testing.
- Establish model monitoring metrics and performance reporting format as appropriate to each use case.
- Collaborate with implementation teams to operationalize successful use cases.
- An active contributing member to the analytics community to help foster and grow the data science community at Sun Life.
- Champion and support diversity and inclusion.

**What will you need to succeed?**:

- University degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other relevant fields.
- Minimum of 2 years experience developing and implementing data science solutions in one or more statistical programming languages (i.e., Python, R, Scala, C/C++).
- 2 years experience experience with machine learning including supervised and unsupervised models.
- Demonstrated experience in data transformation & data manipulation.
- Experience working with Structured and Unstructured data.
- Experience querying and manipulating data from relational databases and other data warehouse structures.
- Effective and concise oral and written storytelling and insights communication skills.
- Ability to document work and effectively prioritize documentation.
- Ability to maintain momentum on multiple projects in parallel while managing fluctuating deadlines and priorities.
- Demonstrated collaboration skills working in a team environment across multiple sites and multiple business units.

**What will be nice to have?**:

- Past experience in life insurance / wealth management, or other financial services industry (e.g., retail banking, credit card, property and casualty insurance).
- Experience with AWS services (i.e., SageMaker, EC2).
- Experience with Big Data Technologies: Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, HBase, Spark.
