The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent full-time Human Resource Generalist in the Human Resource & Organizational Development division.

Job description

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for delivering a broad range of HR services to the organization and assists all areas of the Human Resources team such as: HR Strategy and Workplace Culture, Talent Acquisition and Development, Total Rewards, Labour Relations, Payroll/HRIS, HR Administration, and Health, Safety, and Wellness.

Essential responsibilities

Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies

Provide guidance and expertise on the interpretation and implementation of human resources processes, programs and policies in alignment with corporate goals

Assess and diagnose scenarios and recommend initiatives or action plans

Contribute to the development and monitoring of human resources metrics to understand and act on trends

Assist with the set up and general administration of human resources, employee changes and file management

Create human resources surveys, analyze data and make recommendations to modify existing processes, programs and policies

Monitor legislative trends and/or changes

Provide expertise and guidance on ad-hoc corporate human resources projects

Support all the functional areas within Human Resources & Organizational Development as required

Assist with maintaining internal and external websites and social media sites

Essential qualifications

Completion of a three (3) year formal post-secondary program (preferably in a Human Resources or Business Administration program), with six (6) months to two (2) years of related experience

Experience working in an HR Generalist related position, preferably in a municipal or other government environment, is an asset

Solid understanding of employment legislation and collective agreements

Experience maintaining website pages and social media sites

Working knowledge of the following (or similar) software programs: human resources information systems, benefit carrier systems, learning management systems, payroll systems, applicant tracking systems, safety claims systems, performance management systems, etc.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment with advanced time management, prioritization, organization and interpersonal skills

Strong and effective communication skills (verbal and written), including dynamic public speaking abilities

Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project) (or similar software program)

Certifications, memberships, licenses

Membership with Human Resources Professional Association an asset

Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation an asset

Municipality of Chatham-Kent Vaccination Policy

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has a mandatory vaccination policy. All new employees must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment unless approved for an exemption.

Driver’s licence/vehicle requirements

Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.
