Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request.- As a Local Area Planning Summer Student, you will be given meaningful, productive, and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this position, you will be exposed to the local area planning process at The City and provide valuable research to contribute to the Local Area Planning Program. Primary duties include:
- Support the establishment of a monitoring and sustainment work plan for the Local Area Planning Program.
- Contribute to new and innovative communications and engagement tactics to support the development of local area plans.
- Conduct research to identify best practices for area structure plan development.
- Develop a policy interpretation guide to track consistent interpretation of local area plan policy.
- Research and create policy development materials for internal and external customers.
**Qualifications**
- Enrolled in a degree program in Planning or a planning related discipline (e.g. geography, urban studies, sociology).
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Success in this position requires the following competencies:
- The ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team;
- A high attention to detail and the ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks;
- Strong communication skills, with a demonstrated focus on conflict resolution and problem solving;
- An aptitude for building positive relationships with internal and external partners;
- Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills, while being adaptable and embracing change.
**Pre-Employment Requirements**
- Must be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis with the intent to return to school full-time in the Fall of 2025.
- If invited to an interview, you will be asked to provide an unofficial transcript or an enrollment verification letter (indicating the program and year you are currently completing).

Compensation: $28.88 per hour (2025 Rates)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
- work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
