**Job Overview**

**Duties**
- Provide support to educators in classroom management
- Ensures the care and safety of the children at all times (constant supervision).
- Maintains compliance with all legislative requirements set out in the CCEYA 2014, Heritage Policies and Procedures and in the City of Toronto’s Assessment for Quality Improvement checklist.
- Reports to the Supervisor/Acting Supervisor on issues regarding the daily tasks of the day.
- Reports to the Manager on human resource, payroll and grievance issues.
- Informs self by reviewing and initialing the daily log for notices, messages and pertinent information daily.
- Communicates information that is relevant and appropriate in a professional and timely manner to families, colleagues, supervisor, support staff, placement students and volunteers.
- Assists with guiding support staff, volunteers, placement students with daily tasks.
- Assists in planning, preparing, documenting and carrying out developmentally appropriate programs and activities.
- Under close supervision, implements activities with children on an individual and group basis to promote the development of physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills.
- Attends to children’s physical needs, which may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping.
- Maintains records, reports problems or concerns to the RECE and/or Supervisor.
- Keeps program facilities and equipment safe and clean. Reports repairs and concerns to the RECE and/or Supervisor.
- Maintains a positive and professional relationship with all parents, children and colleagues.
- Assists with the physical condition of the child care facility.
- Participates in staff meetings.
- Delivers excellent customer service at all times.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Maintains consistent work attendance and punctuality.

**Skills**
- Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Maintains ratios at all times
- Relieves staff for breaks, lunches, programming time and in instances where the RECE has become engaged with a parent.
- Reports illnesses, injuries and incidents involving children, parents and staff to the RECE and/or Supervisor at the time of occurrence using the necessary report forms and log book reporting processes.
- Document all illnesses, accidents, injuries and incidents involving children, parents and staff to the RECE and/or Supervisor.
- Supports program through assisting in the planning, implementation, documentation and cleanup of daily activities.
- Escorts children to and from school safely, maintains supervision, ratios and attendance at all times.

**Housekeeping Duties (in collaboration with room staff)**:

- Maintains the cleanliness and order of each program room, the kitchen area, washroom and sinks
- Aware of Toronto Public Health Requirements and hygiene, sanitary practices policies of Heritage.
- Records completion of duties in the daily and monthly cleaning schedules.
- Upkeeps and replenishes supplies in all emergency bags and first aid kits.
- Washes and disinfects dishes, toys and furniture daily as per the cleaning policies and procedure outline in the policy manual and in direct compliance to Toronto Public Health requirements.
- Keeps inventory of supplies and equipment updated.
- Informs Supervisor when supplies are low and need to be replenished.

**Food Handling and Preparation - supports the housekeeping team when needed**:

- Holds a Food Handler’s Certificate as mandated by Toronto Public Health
- Adheres to all policies and procedures related to food handling and preparation as mandated by Toronto Public Health.
- Aware of children’s allergies and food restrictions and follows any procedures as outlined in the children’s Individual Medical Plans.
- Supervises catering deliveries and reports any short or missing items to the RECE and/or Supervisor.
- Maintains food temperature above 60 degrees Celsius and records food temperature in the kitchen log daily when food arrives and prior to serving.
- Maintains the temperature of the refrigerators below 4°C / 40°F and records on cold food temperature log.
- Maintains the temperature of the freezers below 18°C/ 0°F and records on cold food temperature log.
- Prepares snack and lunch portions according to caterer serving guidelines.
- Sets up lunch tables with appropriate cutlery, dishes, bowls, etc.
- Records menu changes, 5:30 snack, and children’s dietary substitutions and adaptations.

- Maintains positive and responsive communication with children, families and other professionals
- Uses professional tools to communicate with parents and other professionals
- Ensures knowledge and practice of acceptable behavior management strategies
- Can collaborate with others in program, tasks and day-to-day duties
