The Specialist, Health Information Management is responsible for liaising, in a clinical capacity, with all stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination between obtaining and reporting requirements for public reporting of hospital performance and ensuring alignment of internal processes to enable scheduled delivery of Public Reporting for public websites, Hospital CEOs, LHIN Leads and Hospital Programs to enable strategic improvement planning for donation in Ontario.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Provides primary contact for the Hospital Health Records/Informatics Manager.

  • Responds to stakeholder requests for information and access to the secure file transfer protocol (SFTP).

  • Determines appropriate users for SFTP and grants appropriate access.

  • Monitors and follows up on the submission of data; escalates issues when required.

  • Manages the day-to-day secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) for server needs.

  • Works with the Information Technology (IT) team to identify any gaps in submissions and the uploading of material for hospital validation.

  • Manages the health information reviewer (HIR) data base, including working with Health Information Reviewers and the Manager(s) Hospital Program and Organ & Tissue Donation Coordinators (OTDCs) and to ensure complete, submitted and validated (HIR) data entry is on schedule to enable timely public reporting.

  • Ensures data integrity and compliance of information.

  • Works with IT to ensure reports reflect data base content and meet needs of stakeholders reliant on the performance reports.

  • Acts as clinical liaison for the hospital funding report to ensure data is correct and complete, related to funding criteria.

  • Assists with any issues or questions that the Health Information Reviewer may encounter.

  • Provides data analysis and generates clinical reports from various databases.

  • Completes health record review functions as assigned

  • Monitors performance against corporate and program-level goals and targets, as well as identifies and evaluates trends and makes recommendations for system performance.

  • Encourages and participates in clinical adoption of new/changed functionality in relation to facilitating workflow or business processes to ensure availability of information for public reporting potential opportunities for improvement in health.

  • Works with TGLN web provider to ensure PR data is in format for posting.

  • Works with Senior Director, Clinical Donation Services and Administrative staff to coordinate CEO letters and data release to LHIN leads and hospitals.

  • Provides potential performance related news items to Communications for media release consideration.

  • Works in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety/ Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in health sciences or equivalent education/experience.

  • Valid Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) certificate required.

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in data collection, analysis and data management in a health care setting or a combination of equivalent experience and education.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated experience developing scorecard metrics preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) coding standards, including Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) abstracting guidelines and Ontario Ministry of Health (MOHLTC) data quality initiatives an asset.

  • Valid G driver's license, and access to a reliable vehicle
