Bird is a place where you will unlock your potential and achieve your goals.Reporting to the Automation Manager, the PLC Programmer is responsible for programming automation and controls systems involving PLCs. The PLC Programmer provides technical direction and expertise for the maintenance, upkeep, and troubleshooting of all electrical/instrumentation equipment.This position is based in the Edmonton, AB office.What You Will Be Working OnAccountable for PLC/HMI/SCADA programming in office and onsite.Manage testing, start-up and commissioning onsite.Meeting with clients to discuss their mechanical or electrical automation needs.Provide client technical support via telephone and remote access support to commissioned sites.Drawing electrical or mechanical schematics for process demonstration.Developing and installing machine programs using automation software and custom coding languages.Set up computers, networking equipment and configuration.Testing automated systems for efficiency, safety and reliability.Troubleshooting system errors.Ensure all supporting documentation is completed thoroughly and accurately.What We Are Looking ForAn undergraduate degree in Software Engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering would be an asset2+ years’ experience PCL programming with the industrial sectorKnowledge of manufacturing and mechanical processesDetailed knowledge of PLC automation software and coding languagesAbility to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project scheduleCompetent with all Microsoft Office applicationsAbility to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groupsStrong written and oral communication skillsAble to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environmentAbility to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve themStrong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detailExceptional client management skillsClass5 drivers’ licence and acceptable driver abstract requiredWillingness to travel up to 30%We Put Safety FirstA healthy and safe work environment is non-negotiable.
