JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Engineer, Technical Services & Research is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings. This position will prepare project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead, manage, and be accountable for testing projects, equipment, and assigned staff in the high voltage, power, and mechanical test laboratories and associated workshops.Assess, investigate, and provide forensic root cause analysis on material and equipment failures and suspected defects including the issue of formal technical reports providing resolution direction.Lead testing of new products and or new material manufacturers in support of procurement competitive evaluations and growing diversified supply options.Collect, interpret, document, and report laboratory data and results in an organized and methodical manner utilizing relevant, recognized, and required technical standards and codes.Support critical safety investigations through diligent testing, interpretation, and analysis of potential contributing material and construction standard factors.Support adoption of grid modernization equipment capabilities such as remote operable switches and AMI metering.Support adoption of new or advanced construction standards through laboratory prototype testing and field piloting.Contribute to the development of safe, reliable, and cost-effective material technical specifications, engineered construction standards, and telecom joint use projects.Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practicesProvide assistance and prepare project plans and monitor project costs and schedulesProvide technical assistance for construction, commissioning, and operationsPerform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of actionPrepare project plans, monitor costs and schedules, and initiate corrective action as appropriateProvide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiativesDevelop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, and methodologiesProvide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staffProvide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as requiredOther related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in Electrical, Mechanical, Engineering Physics, or Electronic Systems (other disciplines may be considered).Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)Professional Engineering Designation P.Eng.A minimum of six (6) years post P. Eng. relevant experience that includes:A combination of the following engineering tasks: planning, designing, constructing, operating, commissioning of facilities, management, and coordination of technical aspects of contracts and/or technical coordination of highly complex projectsDemonstrated competency in engineering, maintain knowledge on industry standards, industry trends and developments, internal processes, and proceduresDemonstrated ability to provide recommendations and influence decision makingDemonstration of strong relationships with working groups, committees and technical leaders across the organization and external partnersAbility to provide competent leadership, including, coaching and development of technical staff including engineers, engineers-in-training and other resources as requiredDeep and/or broad experience providing guidance and expertise on complex technical issues.Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalismAbility to work and manage in a changing environmentStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skillsAbility to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamworkDemonstrated skill in SaskPower's CompetenciesMust have a continuing record of professional development A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be consideredCandidates under consideration may be required to participate in an assessment process consisting of any/all of the following: interview, abilities test, case study and/or presentation.
