Clinical Skills Instructor, Western College of Veterinary Medicine Summary: The clinical skills instructor delivers hands-on instruction and mentorship to undergraduate veterinary students in didactic, practical, and clinical skills laboratories. This role involves demonstrating clinical techniques, guiding experiential learning, and promoting safe and effective practice using simulation models, cadavers, and live animal experiences. The instructor contributes to the development of learning materials in collaboration with faculty, provides supervision and academic support to students, and assists in the design and delivery of clinical examinations. This position plays a key role in building foundational competencies and supporting student success within the veterinary curriculum. Duties and Responsibilities: Supports the integration of knowledge and skills across all program years and disciplines in collaboration with leadership and other staff Participates in curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives Contributes to the collaborative development and coordination of the program’s clinical skills laboratory Develops, administers, and evaluates Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) and other assessments in alignment with the competency-based curriculum Demonstrates techniques and supports hands-on student learning using simulation models, cadavers, and live animal experiences Provides technical guidance during practice sessions to promote safety and the achievement of learning objectives Creates and maintains instructional materials and learning resources Supervises and mentors students during lab instruction Provides input into the development and use of new simulation models Coordinates and trains instructors in support of the clinical skills content and assessments Maintains accurate animal usage records and are responsible for the submission of required regulatory information including Animal Use Protocols (AUPs) Serves on teaching-related committees Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position Qualifications: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree Eligible for licensure with the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association (SVMA) Minimum of two years of relevant experience Experience in instructional design and student mentorship is an asset Familiarity with clinical instruction, competency-based education, and clinical examination development is preferred Strong clinical and technical veterinary skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment Strong organizational and time-management skills Proficiency in computer applications for developing and delivering educational materials is an asset
