As Videographer, you will perform tasks as a specialist in production, contributing creatively to programming by frequently composing distinctive visuals within the scope and time constraints of the program. You will work primarily for news and current affairs programs. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC/Radio-Canada or industry standards, but there is latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative. Duties are performed under the direction of program or other personnel, but there may be requirements to work without immediate supervision. Work is usually performed within established program formats and under high pressure.Key tasks:Prepare, align and set up field cameras, ensuring optimum visual and technical quality under prevailing conditionsLight the subject or scene; compose and record program material using a handheld camera, a DSLR or a mobile device. Ensure both visual and aural material meets technical and aesthetic requirements for editingDeliver all recorded materials and perform editingIn the field, perform basic maintenance on equipmentShoot stills and video for our digital platformsSearch for archive footage as required for productionDigitizing video material or media transfers (photos, videos, YouTube, downloading music or content on Instagram).As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:Ask scripted questions of subjects being recorded.Contribute to social media.Craft stories, working with other team members.Perform radio presentation and technical assistance for television and digital.Depending on your skills, help produce infographic content.We are looking for a candidate with the following:Objective criteria:Technical knowledge and understanding of daily television and digital program production methods, including an understanding of picture composition and single-camera lighting, as well as digital production in both horizontal and vertical formats.Knowledge generally gained through community college graduation in television arts, or equivalent industry experienceSix months to one year of specialized experience in the news field or remote broadcasting.Ability to edit recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems, such as Avid Media Composer, Avid NewsCutter, Apple iMovie, Final Cut Pro, vMix or Adobe Premiere Pro, an asset.Good oral and written language skills (English and French).Valid driver’s license.Ability to work various shift patterns, including overnights and weekends, often in unexpected overtime situations.Subjective criteria:Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a calm, professional attitude.Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to pursue the acquisition of story elements with minimum supervision, ensuring a high degree of accuracy, quality and creativity.Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.Highly creative, imaginative problem-solver and motivated self-starter.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Creative problem-solving skills.Demonstrated initiative.Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing. We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the nextstep will be asked to complete a background check.
