Job SummaryWe are currently looking for a full-time Research Coordinator, to support the pan-Canadian research project called, Pandemic pREparedness engaging Primary cARe and Emergency Departments (PREPARED). The purpose of this study is to enhance surveillance, improve care and health system efficiency, accelerate biomanufacturing of diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics, and facilitate linkage to clinical trials. This position will be based at different clinics (TBD) in the lower mainland of BC and is a 1-year term appointment with possible extension. Integrated within a busy, multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will work closely with research staff, and report to the principal investigator and/or research program manager of study. They will get prepared to delve into a career that not only satisfies their intellectual curiosity but also makes a tangible impact on human health and well-being.Organizational StatusThe Research Coordinator reports directly to Drs. Rubee Dev and Sabrina Wong of the BC-PHCRN and collaborates with the lead of the pan-Canadian PREPARED study, Dr. Andrew Pinto. The Research Coordinator will also work collaboratively with other research assistants and coordinators across the provinces to communicate and troubleshoot any issues, and participate in regular teleconferences and face-to-face meetings.Work PerformedCoordinates provincial implementation if the PREPARED research project, including implementation, data collection and planning and implementation of various aspects of the research projectAssists in the preparation of study-related documents and reportsSupports with REB submissions by drafting amendments, and tracking of changes to study documentsContacts, recruits, screen, and enroll study participantsCoordinates the consent of eligible participants on-siteCollects biospecimens from eligible participants at consenting clinics through nasal swabsOversees documentation of data collection and inputs relevant data into databases (REDCap)Maintains accurate and detailed records of research activities by creating weekly reportsCoordinates shipment and storage of collected samplesCoordinates with other departments and staff involved in the studyConducts literature reviews and support writing of research articlesPerforms other tasks and responsibilities as required in support of the unit or department within scope of this positionConsequence of Error/JudgementThis position requires working effectively within an organizational structure as well as a high degree of self-direction. The research coordinator will be required to show judgment and decision-making, which has the potential to impact the reputation of the BC-PHCRN lab, and the opportunity for future research development. The direction of the research initiatives will be discussed at regular meetings with Drs. Dev and Wong and the project team. Regular reporting will also be required to the project team and stakeholder groups as defined by the research project component. The exercise of poor judgment and lack of consultation with supervisors could adversely affect the viability and validity of the research project or program. It may lead to the suspension of studies. Continued adverse effects on the lab's research projects could negatively affect the ability of the lab to obtain funding for future research projects. Supervision ReceivedThe Research Coordinator reports to Drs. Rubee Dev and Sabrina Wong of the BC-PHCRN. This position works under general direction within established policies, procedures and standards. Work reviewed against task objectives and conformity to standards.Supervision GivenThe Research Coordinator will not oversee other staff members.Minimum QualificationsCompletion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field such as laboratory science, public health, or health sciences preferredConsideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience in clinical research or healthcare settingDemonstrated knowledge of medical and scientific terminologyProficiency in using electronic data capture systems and softwareBasic understanding of clinical research principles and methodologies and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelinesAbility to follow protocols and guidelines closelyExcellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; necessary for interaction with study participants and team membersExcellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skillsExcellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workloadAbility to keep written records and handle sensitive and confidential informationAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to travel to clinic sites
