Individuals who anticipate needing accommodations for any part of the application process, may contact HR in confidence, prior to the closing date.Duties: Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources and working closely with the Human Resources and Payroll staff, the Human Resources Advisor provides advice and guidance as an HR generalist related to labour relations, recruitment and retention, employee well-being, benefits and leave management, disability case management, job descriptions, classifications, learning and professional development. The HRA is an advocate for healthy employer-employee relations, fostering a proactive, problem-solving approach to relationships and ensuring that priorities and issues are effectively supported and effectively concluded. This position can be based at the Smithers, Terrace, or Prince Rupert campus.Key components of the role include, but are not limited to:Works collaboratively with team members who deliver HR/LR/PR services, ensuring the flow of information across the teamLeads the recruitment process, and participates on selection committees, designs and recommends evaluation tools such as tests and interview questions. May provide training, advice or resources to selection panels and advise and review selection staffing actionsProvides coaching and advice on the disciplinary process, formulating disciplinary communication, advice on disciplinary meetings, and involvement in disciplinary meetings when requiredRecommends approaches and courses of action to achieve problem/conflict resolution and preventionProvides advice and guidance on job description review process. Advises on links between job content, job description and job classification. Provide assistance on job description writing, drafts job descriptions.Support grievance handling, arbitration preparation and labour-management meetings as requiredReviews and audits human resource practices, identifies anomalies, discrepancies, and makes recommendations for improvementRepresent the department on various committees including professional associations and organizationsServe as back-up support to other Human Resources positions as required Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, such as human resources preferred from an appropriately accredited institution along with a minimum of two years of progressive related experience in a human resources role. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered. Additional Human Resources related certifications are considered an asset, such as CPHR, Labour Relations certificate, etc. Required skills, abilities, and knowledge includes: Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as but not limited to, the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Code, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy ActExperience working with and/or interpreting and administering collective agreements and/or management terms and conditions of employmentExperience working in a large multi-union environment with preference given to experience in post-secondaryExperience with conflict resolution and conducting investigationsAbility to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and clientsOrganizational skills and responsivenessAbility to conduct research, synthesize data/information with a critical eye and develop/deliver findings and recommendationsAbility to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretionAbility to remain calm and flexible when managing tight deadlines and under pressure, and provide accurate advice in line with policy and legislationAbility to take initiative and is a self-starterCommitment to excellence and thoroughness with a client and business focus.
