For more information visit: legalaid.sk.ca/about/careers/ResponsibilitiesUnder the leadership of the Legal Director, key staff lawyer responsibilities include but are not limited to:Carriage and maintenance of assigned client files in alignment with the Law Society of Saskatchewan Code of Conduct as well as the policies and procedures set by Legal Aid Saskatchewan.Efficient and organized file management Timely and ongoing communication with clientsLitigation advocacy for LAS clients at every stage as required throughout the criminal law process including judicial case conferences, pre-trials, trials, decision reviews & appeals.Competent negotiation on behalf of LAS clients to achieve fair, early and lasting outcomes for clients.Ability to work independently on client files as assigned.Manage files using LAS case management technology leading to minimal paper records.Complete and accurate time entry and record keeping.Position RequirementsFive years of experience in criminal law litigation.Law degree from a recognized law school.Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action; the United Nations declaration on the Rights of Indigenous people. Member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.Valid Driver’s License – Class 5.Technologically savvy with a keen enthusiasm for learning new systems including, computer literacy in MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other web-based resources.Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by low-income and marginalized communities.Demonstrated time management and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.Successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable criminal record check.Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and will be accepted and evaluated until the position is filled.
