Job Description:DepartmentKinesiologySubject AreaLeisure and Sport in SocietyDescription of PositionThe Department of Kinesiology is seeking a qualified instructor to teach during the Spring 2026 semester. Additional consideration may be given to candidates who can teach other courses in the Diploma in Kinesiology Program.KINS 1160 introduces students to the social, economic, and political dimensions of leisure and sport. Course topics include socialization, youth, deviance, gender, race and ethnicity, politics, and other current issues influencing sport and physical activity.Course Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of KINS 1160, students will be able to…Describe and utilize relevant terminology and sociological concepts associated with the study of sport, physical education, and leisure;Identify and describe traditional philosophies and sociocultural theories in leisure and sport;Describe the historical context of sport, physical education, and leisure, identifying significant contributions and influences on contemporary society;Examine and interpret current sociological issues relevant to leisure and sport;Utilize basic literary search techniques; form an argument based upon information; write, in English, with clarity and appropriate structure, and cite using current APA style guidelines.ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for:Preparing and delivering course content in alignment with departmental learning outcomes;Designing and facilitating lectures, discussions, and other learning activities;Creating, administering, and grading assignments and examinations;Supporting student learning and contributing to a positive, inclusive classroom environment;Contribute to departmental initiatives, such as curriculum renewal, student outreach, and program planning;Engaging in non-instructional activities that advance departmental operations, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Further duties and responsibilities are described in the .This is a part-time position, subject to sufficient student enrolment.Join a dynamic and collegial team in the Department of Kinesiology, known for its interdisciplinary approach to the study of human movement, health, and wellness.Required Qualifications:A bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, human kinetics, or a closely related discipline;A master’s degree in kinesiology, human kinetics, or a closely related discipline, with a focus on the sociology of sport or physical activity;Preferred Qualifications:Prior postsecondary instructional experience;Availability to teach in semesters beyond Spring 2026;Ability to teach other courses in the Diploma in Kinesiology Program;Ability to accommodate the department’s established course schedule.Salary placement is based on the Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.Additional Info:Why Join Langara? At Langara College, we support the College’s vision of promoting wellness and fostering personal and professional growth for our employees.
