The sentences include probation, conditional sentence, custody and supervision, conditional supervision and Intensive Rehabilitative Custody and Supervision. Probation officers also supervise those released from custody on conditional releases and prepare pre-sentence investigations to assist the Courts in the sentencing process. Evidence based Program facilitation and supports to specialized courts in areas of domestic violence, mental health and wellness are also part of the role of a Probation Officer as well as Restorative Justice casework and collaboration with community justice agencies.Five adult correctional facilities and one youth centre provide the safety and security of person in custody while providing programs that address dynamic criminogenic factors to assist with their successful, reintegration back into the community.Nova Scotia Correctional Services utilizes an evidence-based approach in both Community Corrections and custodial facilities. Core Correctional Practices (CCP) is the foundational practice that drives reintegration and rehabilitation practices deployed within Correctional Services. Correctional Services takes a collaborative, trauma informed approach to case management by providing gender specific, culturally responsive programs and services to address vulnerabilities and instill a sense of personal – value. Correctional case management practices involve connecting persons in custody and community with appropriate services to reduce the likelihood they will reoffend and support them in achieving improved outcomes.About Our Opportunity Under the general supervision of the Manager, Case Management & Social Work Services, the successful candidate will be one of two Team Leads who ensure they provide direct supervision to a team of collaborative and passionate Forensic Social Workers and Correctional Case Manager. This position provides provincial oversite to staff in both facility and community across the province. With their expertise in the field of mental health, corrections, clinical social work and critical reflective supervision techniques, the Team Lead will support the team with difficult, complex cases and work to build their capacity. In addition, the Team Lead will be responsible to ensure case planning and case management practices are being completed.Primary Accountabilities Case management oversight, ensuring individuals are provided with supports to address criminogenic risks/needs and case management activities are completed and properly documented.Collaborate and case conference with Correctional Social Workers, Correctional Case Managers, Probation Officers, and other Corrections staff to develop case plans and release plans.Provide supervision to forensic social workers and correctinal case managers.Clinical supervision for social work community outreach that fosters positive relationships and collaboration with community partners.Provide supportive and clinical counselling to individuals based on the clinical case plan.Provide training and workshops that foster skill development and integration of psychotherapy skills, including trauma-responsive interventions for the provincial case management team.Provide critically reflective clinical supervision on matters relating to; complex cases, integration of psychotherapeutic approaches into supportive counselling, and integrating critical clinical theory into clinical interventions.Work collaboratively with staff of the Correctional Facilities which house provincial specialized living units to provide clinical oversight and clinical intervention plans.Attend collaborative meetings with community and government partners that align with the mission and vision of the NS Department of Justice: Correctional Services. Occasional duties:Conduct information sessions with other Departments and agencies, schools, medical professionals, and such other allied services, as appropriate. Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications and Experience As an ideal candidate for this position, you must possess a Master of Social Work degree from a recognized school, be Registered with the NS College of Social Work, plus several years of related project/program management and development experience within the forensic or health fields, or an equivalent level of direct and relevant experience will be considered.The successful candidate will have:Proven leadership abilities in managing projects that achieve results in a complex and changing organization, influenced by a wide range of internal and external demands.Previous experience in managing multiple projects and deadlines, and the ability to work under pressure, tight deadlines, and changing priorities.Effective, articulate, and persuasive communication abilities (written and verbal) along with attention to detail in terms of reading and disseminating information.An understanding and experience of change management at the individual and project levels.Knowledge and experience leading project and program development to meet the complex needs of individuals within the Criminal Justice System with a client centered focus with emphasis on rehabilitation, reintegration, and innovation.
