RFP 25-203 – Nuclear Systems EngineerRequisition ID: 54575Location: Pickering Nuclear Generating Station (PNGS)889 Brock Road – 100% On SiteJob OverviewThe Nuclear Systems Engineer is a key member of the PNGS Refurbishment Engineering Department and is accountable for the health, reliability, and performance of assigned plant systems. This role serves as the system technical authority, ensuring systems are operated and maintained safely, reliably, and in full compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements.The incumbent provides engineering support across system monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, modifications, and continuous improvement, working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and regulatory stakeholders throughout refurbishment and ongoing station operations.Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Ownership & Technical AuthorityAct as the primary technical owner and subject matter expert for assigned nuclear plant systems.Maintain in-depth knowledge of system design, operation, performance history, and licensing basis.Ensure system documentation remains current, accurate, and compliant.System Monitoring & PerformanceMonitor system health using key performance indicators, trending, surveillance data, and condition monitoring tools.Analyze performance data to proactively identify degradation, risks, or emerging issues.Prepare and present system health and performance reports to internal stakeholders.Troubleshooting & Problem ResolutionInvestigate abnormal system behavior, equipment failures, and operational events.Lead or support root cause analyses and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.Provide technical support during off-normal and emergency events as required.Maintenance & Reliability SupportCollaborate with maintenance teams to plan, prioritize, and review preventive and corrective maintenance activities.Review, develop, and approve maintenance strategies, procedures, and work packages.Support timely execution of maintenance activities and restoration of systems to operational status.System Modifications & UpgradesIdentify opportunities for system improvements, upgrades, and refurbishment-related modifications.Develop or support engineering change packages in accordance with configuration management and quality requirements.Support implementation, testing, and commissioning of system changes.Regulatory Compliance & Nuclear SafetyEnsure all engineering activities comply with OPG policies, CNSC requirements, industry standards, and station procedures.Participate in audits, inspections, safety reviews, and regulatory engagements.Promote and uphold a strong nuclear safety culture and human performance principles.Documentation & ReportingMaintain accurate system documentation, including drawings, specifications, procedures, and records.Prepare technical reports, event summaries, corrective action documentation, and regulatory submissions as required.Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder EngagementIdentify and implement best practices to improve system reliability, efficiency, and safety.Participate in lessons learned, benchmarking, and process improvement initiatives.Communicate technical information clearly to operations, maintenance, engineering, and regulatory stakeholders.QualificationsExperience2–5 years of relevant engineering experience in power generation, utilities, or a comparable industrial environment.Experience in system engineering, design engineering, maintenance engineering, operations support, or project engineering is preferred.Nuclear experience is an asset.Skills & CompetenciesStrong understanding of engineering principles and plant systems applicable to power generation.Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.Ability to manage multiple priorities, plan work effectively, and meet deadlines.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong attention to detail in technical work and documentation.Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.Demonstrated commitment to safety culture, regulatory compliance, and best practices in the nuclear industry.Professional DesignationProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario is preferred.Candidates eligible for and actively pursuing their P.Eng. designation are also encouraged to apply.Spirit Omega is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
