Summer Student – Building Department POSITION SUMMARY   Working under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the Co-op Building role is responsible for providing support to the Building Department for the Town of Kingsville. The Co-op student will be exposed to all aspects of the building permit and inspection process, including assistance with building permit applications and moving forward existing permit files.  The Co-op student will have exposure to various aspects of the construction industry and will be required to assist Building Inspectors to fulfill their legislative duties.  The Co-op student will be required to work directly with developers, contractors and skill trades.  They will be exposed to various construction sites including residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural construction industries with a concentrated effort on the greenhouse and agricultural-food industry.  The successful candidate is required to engage various contractors and trades to assist the Building Officials with inspections and plans review.  The successful candidate will also be required to assess various building permits for the energy efficiency and resource conservation initiatives as amended in the Ontario Building Code with the objective of delivering positive environmental outcomes.      RESPONSIBILITIES   Provide technical support for building permits and applications   Provide support to Building Inspectors, Building/Planning Tech and Office Support team   Collect and compile data for open/dormant building permit files with a concentrated effort to complete and close permit files.  Prepare correspondence for permit holders and follow-up communication with them   Data entry into various permitting platforms   Some field inspections and documentation may be required   Customer service including telephone and counter reception duties   Records retention support including paper filing and scanning documents   Other related duties as assigned   QUALIFICATIONS   Be a returning Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology student or other related discipline in a recognized College or University program in Ontario and be legally entitled to work in Canada as a student   Hold a valid driver’s licence    Be self-motivated   Have good written and oral communication skills    Have the ability to demonstrate professionalism in dealing with the public   Strong organization, interpersonal and time management skills    Good technical comprehension of the Building Code Act and the Ontario Building Code    Ability to work in a fast paced team environment and meet deadlines    Able to handle information in a confidential matter      WORKING CONDITIONS   Work is in an office environment, 35 hours a week.      Hourly Rate of Pay:    $22.44 per hour   This posting is for an existing vacancy.  Interested applicants must submit the Application for Student Employment form along with a resume and cover letter no later than Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. All applications are appreciated; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.  Accommodations under the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) will be provided upon request.    Powered by JazzHR
