The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Team Lead, Chemical Process Engineering to join our team. This role offers a clear pathway to Manager, Chemical Process Engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in detailed process design and process optimization with a keen interest in mentoring and training junior and intermediate engineers. In this role, you'll oversee engineering best practices, foster collaboration, and ensure project success from concept to execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, providing technical direction, fostering collaboration, and ensuring successful project execution.
  • Lead process design and development for lithium recovery and desalination plants. Utilize modular water treatment units to ensure scalable and repeatable solutions.
  • Manage project workflows by coordinating team efforts, setting clear objectives, and ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Research and evaluate advanced process devices and specifications to ensure optimal technology selection and economic feasibility.
  • Drive product innovation by leading the design and development of new solutions in clean technology.
  • Lead and oversee key engineering tasks:
    • Strategically design process solutions that are low-risk, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable.
    • Develop and refine mathematical process models to optimize performance and design.
    • Generate and maintain PFDs, P&IDs, and mass balances across all project phases.
    • Lead equipment sizing and specification activities to ensure alignment with project requirements.
    • Develop and refine control philosophies that drive operational efficiency.
    • Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and HAZOP reviews, ensuring risk mitigation.
  • Take a hands-on approach when needed, including commissioning, operating, and troubleshooting water treatment assets at our facilities or customer sites.
  • Lead pilot testing initiatives by defining requirements, creating test plans, and managing execution for pilot-scale and innovative systems.
  • Analyze performance data to provide actionable insights and drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of technology and innovation at Saltworks, driving industry-leading solutions.
What You Will Bring:
  • A relevant degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or Integrated Engineering, with significant experience in process design and leadership.
  • 8+ years of post-graduation experience in process or chemical engineering within industrial environments, specializing in design, testing, and operations.
  • A track record of leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Extensive experience in developing P&IDs, preferably using AutoCAD P&ID or similar software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a focus on problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Hands-on tooling and troubleshooting skills to address technical challenges in real-time.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, lead projects, and adapt to evolving challenges.
  • A proactive mindset, a collaborative leadership style, and a commitment to driving technical excellence.
