About the Role – How You Will Contribute to the Service: What you will be Responsible For: The Halton Regional Police Service is seeking one energetic, collaborative, and innovative individual to join our Corporate Communications Unit as a Summer Student from May to August. The student will assist with implementing Corporate Communications programs, including video producing and editing, content creation social media strategy, and event support such as news conferences. They will also contribute to designing visual communications, project management and provide administrative support where needed This fast-paced environment will help the student develop their writing, creative, and strategic thinking skills. They will gain exposure to the highest professional standards in policing, grow their leadership abilities, and build credentials as trusted communications advisors at HRPS—experience that will benefit their ongoing professional pursuits. The student will learn from a team of experienced communicators, enhancing organizational and interpersonal skills. Additionally, the student will shadow and support the Corporate Communications team in areas such as strategic communications, media relations, social media, community engagement, and internal unit operations. What You Will Bring to the Role: Education, Certifications and Qualifications: The applicant must be currently enrolled in a full-time postgraduate certificate program in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Multi-Media. Experience using MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro), DSLR camera operation, and social media management tools l is required. Strong writing, research, and communication skills are also essential. Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Our ideal candidate will possess strong integrity, maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information. The candidate must be a self-starter with a can do attitude and is keen to share creative ideas , with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and pay a high degree of attention to detail. Strong collaborative, analytical and organizational skills, with a superior ability to problem-solve. Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service This will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen. This position is based out of our Oakville Headquarters facility which is located at the QEW and North Service Road West.  Hourly Rate: This is a paid student position starting at $20.11 for a four-month term (May to August 2026) contract Working Hours: 35 hours per week: Monday – Friday. Step 2: Resume Screening — December 16, 2025 to January 3, 2026 Step 3: Applicant Notifications — January 6, 2026. Applicants will be informed of their application status. Those selected to advance to the interview stage will receive an interview invitation. Step 4: Behavioural Interviews — Week of January 12 to January 22, 2026Selected applicants will be invited to attend in-person behavioural interviews. Step 5: Pre-Employment Checks — Week of January 26, 2026Pre-employment checks will be conducted for shortlisted candidates. These checks include a Security Check, Professional Reference checks, and any additional employment verifications relevant to the specific role. Note: The Security Check appointment must be completed in person. Step 6: Decision Making — Week of February 17, 2026. All applicants will be notified of their final application status via email.
