ProjectThe Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.PositionThe Laboratory Supervisor is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG's dynamic team. This role reports to the Senior Process Engineer, Operations Engineering and will be responsible for developing and progressing Ready for Operations (RFO) activities relating to laboratory activities, ensuring seamless transition of the facility from EPC to the operations phase, and thereafter, manage the operations of the laboratory.Key Responsibilities:During the EPC stage of the project, the successful candidate will:Lead the set up and commissioning of WLNG’s modular site laboratory. Establish procedures and work instructions for sampling, testing, analysis, reporting and chemicals management. This includes developing laboratory management procedures, quality manuals, and laboratory services contracts. Post EPC, during the Operational phase, the incumbent will be responsible for executing and overseeing the analysis of samples for a typical LNG plant. These analyses shall include, but are not limited to::LNG compositionRefrigerant compositionDewpoint (natural gas & other gases)Water (produced, waste, cooling)Amine solutionNatural Gas Liquids (NGL, condensate)Oil (condition - viscosity, particles, ferrography) Further responsibilities include:Responsible for the recruitment and hiring of laboratory technicians.Serves as a resident company Subject Matter Expert, providing advice and guidance on laboratory system issues.Provide day-to-day laboratory oversight support to the operations laboratory to ensure laboratory tasks & requests are carried out timely with high degree of accuracy and efficiency.Lead and supervise a team of laboratory technicians who will operate laboratory equipment to perform required analysis.Coordinate training for laboratory technicians.Maintain a maintenance and calibration program to ensure all analysis equipment are in top condition.Inventory management of laboratory supplies and parts.Manage confidential employee and contractor information.RequirementsRequired Experience: Education and Certifications: Degree in Science, Chemistry, or equivalent. A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience working in a hydrocarbon laboratory. Oil and Gas experience is required, with preference in LNG applications. Extensive knowledge of sampling and laboratory equipment is required. Analytical skills in quality testing using gas chromatography especially LNG and condensate composition. Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems. Additional Requirements: Proven leadership skills to ensure effective communication and coordination between team members. Ability to promote and enforce a strong safety culture within the engineering team and throughout the project. Experience working with teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset. Strong Communication/interpersonal skills – capable of interacting with front-line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. A valid driver’s license and passport. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. This role will initially be based in WLNG’s Vancouver offices and later, when the LNG plant is operational be moved to plant site in Squamish, BC.
