Description The Capital Markets & Credit Investments (CM&CI) department manages C$165 billion of capital markets and credit investments (56% of total net AUM of BCI). The assets are managed through a variety of Credit, Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives and Absolute Return Strategies. The department invests globally with investment teams located in BCI’s global offices (i.e., Victoria, Vancouver, New York and London). As a leader in responsible investing, the department actively integrates ESG factors into investment analysis and decision-making processes. Private Debt The Principal Credit (Private Debt) Fund was launched in April 2018 and manages approximately $19.4 billion in assets. The Fund has a non-investment grade global mandate but will primarily invest in U.S. companies. The portfolio is expected to grow significantly over the coming years, with an increased emphasis on direct investment.What you bringA relevant undergraduate/graduate university degree5-7 years (Principal)/7+ years (Sr. Principal) experience in private debt, investment banking, M&A, private equity, management consulting, deal/financial advisory or rating agenciesDecisiveness and the ability to form and defend independent credit opinionsStrong financial modeling, research and analytical skillsSound judgment and the ability to work independentlyExperience with leveraged loans, middle market debt and/or high yield bondsExperience or knowledge of loan settlement processMBA/CFA designation or actively working towards itWhat you get to doInvestment Analysis and ExecutionWorks as an integrated part of deal teams, supporting the diligence of commercial, financial, tax, legal and ESG aspects of prospective investmentsConducts and documents fundamental and relative value research on both private and public marketsSynthesizes findings, key analysis and supporting documents in an organized and documented mannerWrites effective screening, deal alert and investment memorandums. Delivers persuasive oral and written investment recommendations and rationale to the Principal Credit Investment CommitteeInteracts effectively with third party advisors as well as with BCI internal groups (e.g., Legal, Tax, Risk)Portfolio Monitoring and OversightMonitors assigned investments, identifying relevant opportunities and risks including: tracking/evaluating performance metrics, ongoing review against original investment thesis, ongoing strategic fit, significant changes impacting the company, valuation issues and industry developmentsSystematically develops objective and rigorous views on the long-term health and risk of companies within the portfolioWhere you will workThis role will be based in our office in downtown Victoria, BC. Salary rangeThe annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is:Principal - CAD $135,000 - $165,000Senior Principal - CAD $158,000 - $183,000. BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance.
