Estimator (Distribution System Construction)

Our Distribution East group is currently looking to add an Estimator to our growing team, based in Vaughan, ON.Reporting to the Vice President Distribution East, we are seeking an experienced construction estimator who will oversee and provide guidance on pricing for a range of projects, aiming to secure contracts through competitive value propositions that balance competitiveness and profitability.  In this role, you will support Electrical Distribution projects by providing cost estimates, determining project costs, assessing materials and labor requirements, executing RFQ/RFP’s for subcontracting opportunities and analyzing quotes.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepare complete estimates for selected projects, including project site visits, quantity take-offs, pricing, and presentation of estimates for review by cost engineering and managementDevelop, or assist in developing, general and project-specific plans for execution, sequencing, and logistics, including construction and work procedures as needed for bidding and preliminary project schedulesAssemble estimates from various sources to create comprehensive and final estimates for the company, collaborating with engineering supportReview and validate outsourced estimates Incorporate historical data from received estimates, contracts awarded by the EPC Contractor, and final project costs into Valard's cost modelFormat estimates according to Owner's Reporting standardsReview and understand the Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of EstimateOffer guidance to non-estimating personnel on their estimating-related needsAttend and contribute to project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating insightsCommunicate effectively (both written and verbal) with the estimating team, management at all levels, clients, and industry contactsEstablish and nurture business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimatesCollaborate with internal teams, including operations, procurement, finance and engineering, to ensure seamless project planning and turnover from estimate to executionRequirementsPost-Secondary education in Engineering, Commerce, Construction ManagementAn equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may also be consideredProven experience with construction documents and the ability to assess their completeness7 years of technical experience with estimating practices, techniques, and equipmentExperience producing technical estimates for utility constructionDemonstrated construction cost experience, including project budgeting and the ability to develop project schedulesProficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Project, and ExcelAbility to read and interpret drawings and specificationsPreferred Skills / QualificationsExperience with Electrical Distribution projectsBenefitsThis position offers a base salary range of $100 000 – $140 000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.We offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including an RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.  About our BusinessValard Construction is Canada’s premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
